The Pirates got their first win of the season after being shut out last game, they won mainly because of a great 1st inning. They were all over Kyle Lohse and it started with an RBI double from Jones, Doumit followed up with a 2 run double that was blooped into fair territory. LaRoche had the biggest blow with a 3 run homerun as well for a 6 run 1st off of Lohse. They even had to bring Wainwright on for long relief. Duke pitched well and Hanrahan had a little rough 9th when he let up a homerun to Troy Glaus and then Pearce dropped a routine fly ball to right field but in the end he saved it and gave the Bucs a 7-5 win.

The Pirates continued the home stand against NL Centrals rivals and just finished the final game of a 4 game set against the Brewers. The Pirates got off to another hot start scoring 4 runs in the 1st against Braden Looper and wouldn't look back. Hart would do well getting his 1st win of the year but his problem was homeruns. Bill Hall his 3rd homerun of the year and Corey Hart had 2 homeruns. The final score was 7-4 in front of a crowd at PNC Park.

The Pirates have made a month ending move to aquire outfield Travis Buck from the Oakland Atheltics according to MLB Network reports. Buck is a young right fielder who is expected to be the startinf right fielder batting 7th. Buck is batting a nice .333 with 2 homeruns in 80 at bats. On the other side, veteran John Grabow and young SS Valenzuel was traded to Oakland, Grabow had a 6.32 ERA and has struggled.

Athletics get:
SS- Valenzuel
RP- Grabow

Pirates get:
OF- Travis Buck

Also, I simmed through the month because the schedule was so boring and bad. I'll post month updates soon but not everyones stats

Pirates Month In Review

The Pirates started out their month 12-16 which isn't a very great start. They were on a 5 game losing streak and at one point were 11-10 and are 1-5 lately. Below are the things that should some up the stats of the first month

> Jones hit .295 with 1 homerun last month. Thats impressive considering that he had 1 homerun and was hitting .148 in his first 8 games

> Carmen Pignattielo has worked out for the team as a lefty. He has a 2.81 ERA

> The bullpen looks good capped by Bautista(2.96 ERA), Yates(3.21 ERA), Meek(2.49 ERA), Pignattelio(2.81 ERA) and of course the closer who I will get to next

> Hanrahan has been lights out as closer. He is 6 for 7 in save chances. Most impressive is his 0.68 ERA

> Duke has been great so far with a 4-0 record and a 3.21 ERA

Below are the not so good

> Sanchez has started off with a 9.21 ERA

> Rivas was batting .045 so far(1-25)

> Clement wasn't doing much better at .038(1-26)

> Ohlendorf has a 15 ERA in 12 innings thus far

> Dumatrait's ERA is already over 10 in 4 innings and he was just called up to replace Grabow

Houston Astros | 18-11

Cincinatti Reds | 13-15

Moves decided from Buck Trade

The Bucs have decided to send down struggling 2B Luis Rivas to make room for Travis Buck on the team. In another move, Phil Dumatrait will make his second stint this year as he replaced Bautista for a few days he was injured. Rivas, after a great season off the bench, was hitting a putrid .045 and could only play second base.

Macholm wonders how he is doing.

Sanchez says he needs more work on his control.

McCutchen is happy that he has a respectable right fielder playing next to him. However he would still like to see some big moves if possible.

I don't see many big moves up next unless the pirates are in contention at the deadline. Even then I won't get a HUGE move but maybe a young, realistic player

but I'm glad that McCutchen is happy, we need him

and Travis Buck is a bargain, he has C contact and C power through practice in Oakland and is hitting .333

Try Franklin Morales, Rockies. He's got a big SCB.

The Pirates were all over the D-Backs and Yusmerio Petit today due to a 5 run 5th. Petit came into today with a 2.23 ERA but that changed thanks to a 3rd inning homerun by a struggling Jeff Clement. But the Bucs would keep padding on with a 2 run homerun by Fontenot and a homerun by Andrew McCutchen. Travis Buck made his Pirates debut going 2-4 with a double. Jeff Karstens pitched maybe his best game as a Pirate tossing 8 shutout innings and striking out 8 en route a 7-0 rout. Pittsburgh has now won 3 straight

McCutchen (being the future GM that he is) wants to trade for a new third baseman. He gives some suggestions:

Joe Crede (White Sox/Twins depending on your roster)
Nick Punto (Twins)
Alex Gordon (Royals)
Hank Blalock (Rangers)
Pedro Feliz (Phillies)
Jorge Cantu (Marlins)
Jose Castillo (Giants?)

The Pirates won the 1st game of the series against division rival Reds. With the score tied at 2 in the 6th, Ramon Vazuqez and Andy LaRoche hit back to back doubles, LaRoche's driving in the go-ahead run to make it 3-4 and the Pirates wouldn't look back thanks to 7 innings from Kevin Hart, a 1-2-3 8th from Dumatrait and a 9th inning save from dominant closer Joel Hanrahan. The Pirates are on fire right now and have won a season high 5 straight after losing 5 straight.
