James Shields: (7 - 4), 2.36 ERA vs. Jake Peavy (6 - 7), 4.45 ERA

KANSAS CITY -- The Royals have completed a four game sweep of the Rays in Kansas City. The Royals scored first in the first on a Jose Guillen RBI single. The Rays tied it up in the fifth with a Rocco Baldelli RBI double, but the Royals took the lead again for good in the bottom of the inning when David DeJesus belted a lead-off home run. The Royals also managed a rare defensive play in the seventh, recording a 5-4-3 triple play with the runners on first and second running on the play.

you know that you need offense help when you hit into a Triple Play but Peavy is good so its not a huge deal

In real baseball, the Cubs I think actually did have Pinto a few years ago.

EDIT: Nevermind. I was wrong. He's spent his entire career since '06 with the Marlins.

TORONTO -- The Rays have ended their skid and opened up a three game series in Toronto with a win. In the first inning, Carl Crawford belted a two-run double to give the Rays an early lead. Carlos Pena then added to that lead in the third with a lead-off home run. The Blue Jays scored their only run of the game in the fourth on a Lyle Overbay RBI single. The Rays then came up big with a five run sixth inning. Rocco Baldelli knocked in the first run of the inning with an RBI single, and Jason Bartlett followed with a two-run triple, and Akinori Iwamura followed him with an opposite field two-run homer.

TORONTO -- The Rays have won the second game of this series in Toronto. In the fourth inning, after Carlos Pena broke up Reichert's* perfect game, Evan Longoria ended the shutout with a two-run blast. Cliff Floyd added to that in the same inning with an RBI double. The Blue Jays scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth with a Shannon Stewart RBI double. The Blue Jays scored another run in the sixth when Scott Rolen hit RBI single. For the second game in a row, the Rays put up a five run inning, today in the eighth. Jason Bartlett led-off the inning with a solo bomb to dead center, and they kept adding from there. Carlos Pena came up with an RBI single, and Cliff Floyd capped it off with a huge three-run homer. Brian McCann knocked in the Blue Jays' third run in the eighth with an RBI single, and they nearly made a comeback in the ninth, scoring three runs off Jason Hammel, including back-to-back RBI doubles by Lyle Overbay and Gregg Zaun, later followed by an RBI single by Alex Rios, but Percival came on for the last out and got the save.

TORONTO -- The Rays have swept the Blue Jays in this three-game series in Toronto, and this game was all homers. In the second inning, Matt Stairs belted a lead-off home run to give the Blue Jays an early lead, and Aaron Hill added to that in the third with a solo shot, but Cliff Floyd gave the Rays the lead in the fourth with a three-run jack. July has been a very busy month, with all the trades taking place, and the All-Star break, and it affected the Rays, putting up their first losing month of the season, going 11-14, ending the month with an overall record of 65-43, two and a half games back of the first place Yankees in the American League East, who also have the best record in the majors, but the Rays are still currently in the front running for the wild card, five games up on the Boston Red Sox.
