6.25.2008 - Rays (50-27) @ Marlins (41-36): Game 2
Edwin Jackson: (4 - 4), 3.84 ERA vs. Scott Olsen: (8 - 3), 5.18 ERA

MIAMI -- The Rays have won the second game of this three game series against the Marlins at Landshark Stadium. Yet another Rays starting pitcher went the distance for the complete game, giving the bullpen a huge rest lately. In the first inning, Dan Uggla blasted a solo shot to give the fish an early lead, but Evan Longoria tied it up in the third on an RBI single. The Rays then took the lead in the fourth, with runner on third, Edwin Jackson pulls off the suicide squeeze bunt to take a one-run lead. Jackson would get his first hit of the season later in the game on a double high off the left field wall. Dioner Navarro gave the Rays one last necessary run in the sixth with a solo shot, necessary because Hanley Ramirez led-off the eighth with a solo blast, but the Rays hold on to win it.

Final Score:

MIAMI -- The Rays have won the third and final game of this citrus series in Miami in a long, fifteen inning battle. Just about all of the offense in the game was home runs. Mike Jacobs got things started in the second solo shot, but Evan Longoria tied it up in the fourth with his own solo homer. Jeremy gave the Marlins the lead again in the fifth with a solo homer, but B.J. Upton tied it up again in the sixth with HIS own solo shot. Jeremy Hermida gave the Marlins the lead for the third time in the game with a seventh inning lead-off homer, his second of the game. Gabe Gross tied it up AGAIN in the eighth with an pinch-hit opposite field shot that barely made it out. The game remained tied at three until the fifteenth inning; with two on, Jason Bartlett hit an RBI single, Troy Percival closed it out, and the Rays won the game.

July Preview
We are now entering the month of July, the very middle of the summer and the baseball season. July is the month of the All-Star break, so a lot of teams will be happy to give their players a rest. July is also the month of the Trade Deadline on July 31st, so while the players are resting during the All-Star break, no general manager will be getting much rest this month, deciding which player to go after, and a lot of big deals will be made by the end of the month. Rays general manager hasn't really showed interest in anyone, even though the team is already a great team, so the Rays may have a very inactive trade deadline.
