Joe Beimel to the Rockies for 2 Minor leaguers.

In other news, the longest tenured Pirate is now Ryan Doumit who began his stint with the Pirates June 5, 2005... Apparently, we aren't allowed to keep anyone that's been with us longer than 5 years.

I don't understand alot of those trades but they've been losing too long to keep them all

But I'm suprised that neither Dunn, Guzman or Willingham were leaving
The Nationals were making a huge deal over defense and they wanted those 3 to leave because of their defense

As a Jays fan I wouldn't have traded Halladay to Phillie for what they gave up for Cliff Lee, KNapp is the best prospect in the bunch but he is still in A ball. If rumors were true about Angels offering up Weaver that would have been worth listening too.

Would rather keep Doc and trade our GM for a kiss from an ugly sister. You can't expect much when you still, 3 or 4months into it, you still have an "interm" president and a GM that is challening Pirates as the worst in the league.

The Rolen trade was a salary dump, with the hope that EE will be a cheaper stopgap untill, forgot his name in our system, gets a couple of seasons in him. Of the two pitching prospects at least one souds promising.

That Peavy thing just came out of NOWHERE. The White Sox must have felt they needed to do something quick since the Tigers got Washburn and the Twins got Orlando Cabrera.

Yeah that was surprising. But that wasn't the first time the White Sox tried for Peavy, they offered a deal for him on May 23rd and Peavy rejected it. I bet that trade talks for him started up again mid to late July.

Ken Rosenthal reported that no one asked Kevin Towers about Peavy till Ken Williams called on the day of the deadline.

Theo made some good moves.

He was also trying for King Felix and Adrian Gonzalez. It was a three-team deal with the Padres and Mariners, I think.

Basically, the Red Sox would've allowed the Mariners to chose five of any of these guys:

RHP Clay Buchholz
RHP Daniel Bard
RHP Justin Masterson
LHP Nick Hagadone
RHP Michael Bowden
LHP Felix Doubront
OF Josh Reddick
SS Yamaico Navarro

The Red Sox would get Hernandez and Gonzalez while:

Quote:
And the Padres would get Brandon Morrow, Phillippe Aumont and Carlos Triunfel from Seattle, along with a couple of other top Boston prospects

That's what I heard though, probably isn't true though. I can't picture somebody not wanting to raid Boston's farm system...

Masterson was a guy who could only get right handed batters out. He's not a big loss. V-Mart provides that spark to the lineup which we need.

And I'm a Rays and Red Sox fan. I like the Sox more though.

Masterson was'nt great this year but I'm gonna appreciate him for what he did in the postseason last year
also he's a starter too which was one of the reasons why we had good pitching depth which now doeson't look quite as good :|

Masterson is going to be a 3rd starter at most, so don't worry.

Felix+Adrian wow, I think that is a little too much. Why are you worried, and I doubt Seattle would trade him, even if it was for 5 of the prospects. I was suprised Kelly wasn't included.

We still have great pitching depth - Casey Kelly, Micheal Bowden, Tazawa, Stolmy Pimentel, Doubront, Fife, and Buchholz. They go along way to giving us one of the best (if not the best) farm systems pitching-wise.

@MaL: I'd be pissed if we traded away Kelly. He's our top prospect!!

Is Kelly going to be a pitcher or shortstop, I'm hearing pitcher but Kelly wants to a shortstop too

Here's his scouting report:

Quote:
Report: Athletic frame with smooth agility and a tremendous feel for pitching. Kelly was a two-way player in high school, excelling at both shortstop and as a pitcher. He was also a highly-touted quarterback recruit for Tennessee before signing with the Sox. While Kelly focused more on his shortstop skills in high school, the organization thinks that he will end up as a pitcher over the long term - but they will also give him a chance in the infield. As a pitcher, Kelly's skills are quite advanced for his age, mixing in a low 90s fastball, a hard 12-6 curveball, and a nice change, all with above average command and control. Sound, smooth mechanics. Fastball has excellent downward movement, and generally sits between 89 and 92 mph. Many scouts project that he'll sit in the 92-94 mph range after he fills out. Curveball is plus with the potential of being a plus-plus wipeout pitch. It sits around 76-78 mph, but he tends to show it a little too much at times. Changeup sits around 84 mph with a lot of sink. For the most part, he keeps the ball low in the zone, but he's hittable when he leaves it up. Very good mound presence. Defensively, Kelly has excellent range and shows fluid movements in the field. Great glove and a strong, accurate arm. Has the potential to be an elite defensive player at the major league level. Average speed. Offensively, Kelly has a large frame for a shortstop, and could project as a 3B down the line if he sticks s a hitter. At the plate, he is pretty raw. Strikes out too much. Open stance. Some present power, high power potential. Good looking swing, a little on the long side, but the ball comes off his bat well. Kelly entered the 2009 season as a pitcher, but will play shortstop for the remainder of the summer and in Fall ball.

Here is a solution. He could pitch 6 innings, and play SS/3B rest of the game, assuming that the Red Sox do not have a good defense 3B/SS.
