well if put a hall of shame then every player would be in it. why? well at this rate of everyone bashing others to get stuff or saying he is taking it because he is playing to good, i think there was even stories of the babe taking the stuff.

pete rose should go to the HOF. this gambling thing is dumbest reason to keep him out,ok he gamble that his team would win or lose, if he bet to win he played his hardest if bet to lose then he would "choke" but no matter which it went he is still 1 player out of 25. the other 24 guys can easlly change the out come of any game he betted on(if thats how he betted) if he cheated points to help the spread there are still 24 other guys who can change that.

The Dowd report alleged that he bet on games during the 1985-1987 seasons while he was a player-manager or full-time manager. He had a lot of influence on the outcome of games.

The argument that he's the all-time hits leader also doesn't make sense. If he was second or third in that category, would it still be OK? What about fifth or ninth or fifteenth? My point is: what would be the cutoff? Letting him in would be saying that it's OK to break the rules if you're a really good player. The rules are only there for lesser players.

He knowingly and repeatedly broke a rule. He knew the punishment was a lifetime ban. He lied about his betting. Why should this behavior be rewarded?

but were doing that with barry bonds, sure he is not in the hall but he still has the home run king title. im sure you have something to post saying this is crap which is fine cause i want to read it. also for pete rose when he was managar or player-manager when he betted still doesnt matter there are to many other players who play a factor if a game is won or not

Calm down.

Bonds's situation isn't the same as Rose's. Yes, Bonds is the all-time home run leader just as Rose is the all-time hits leader, but Bonds isn't on the permanent ineligible list. By the way, he's not in the Hall because he's not eligible to appear on the writers' ballot yet.

Rose accepted his lifetime ban in order to halt the investigation of the allegations against him. A lifetime ban was the predetermined punishment for being involved in any betting on any games where he was a player or manager.

As for the other players being a factor, that is true, but there are parts of the game that only the manager can affect. He decides the starting lineup. He can decide to leave in a pitcher for one more batter instead of relieving him. He can signal to pitch to a batter instead of calling for an intentional walk. He chooses which bench player comes in as a pinch hitter. He can decide not to put in a defensive replacement late in a close game.

I think he should be in.
I mean, yes, he gambled, but he was the classic hustle player, one of the best of his generation.
What he did didn't affect anything on the playing field, just made (or lost) him money.
If Bonds and McGwire are still being considered as Hall of Famers, then Rose should definitely be in.

20 bucks says he doesn't go in the Hall. :P :P :P

I think that he should go in the Hall. The reason people don't like betting in the sports you're in is that you could bet against your team and then throw the game. However, no evidence shows he bet against his team; he bet for his team. He's already going to try to get his team to win anyway. I don't think that this is as big a deal as everyone is making it.

And some witnesses say that he once, during an exhibition game, hit a ball out of the old Yankee Stadium, and in out, I mean over the pillars and arches!
