I think their scouting report (Example: Played tennis in high school) has something to do with their abilities.
Let say:
Tennis gets you Contact Hitter and that is usually for 2B/SS.

What about a Triple Crown winner?

Could someone do like a draft. Write down all the stats and such and compare it with other drafts?
I would say fielders and pitchers are seperate. We could have more than 1 person do it so we could compare it for accuracy.

-Starting Pitchers ( They aren't called Aces for nothing. With B stamina and C control with a fastball that flies at the high 90's, you'd be lucky not to face one of them. Along with at least 2 level 4 pitches, these guys can dominate from the get go, but from season drafts, they're only Swing Men, so steal them from other teams, buy them if you have to. In the long hall, they're worth it.)

-Closing Pitchers (Only bested by the Starter for his ability to last longer, but to find a pitcher who throws closest to 100, with more BB options with the same nastiness, you get these guys. Though they never have B control, they have B stamina and C control, more then enough to get the 7 inning save if needed, or if you just want to show them off.)

-Catchers ( The best rookie fielders in the game ready for business from the get-go. Though they never truly touch the B range in any category, you can't get the best combo in defense AND offense, where they can have 3 trj, D contact and C power. With D speed and C defense, they are THE best fielders you can find, along with up to 4 attributes, you can never go wrong.)

-Shortstops/Second Basemen (Overall, the perfect rounded player, where they average high Ds and even a couple of C stats. Not only that, but with good attributes along with them, they're good back ups in the majors. Yet, if starting a team from scratch, these guys, are a must. They get on base, play solid D, and can get you out of a jam. Just make sure you feed the ball to the SS instead of the SB to make the DP quicker.)

-Reliving Pitchers (Nothing special. Good stamina with decent to above decent BBs that are used for ground balls or the occasional K. Can have no more then D or C control, though C is EXTREMELY rare, though their above average velocity is perfect for their spot. The best relievers though have at least one BB going away from their throwing hand, or in depending on how you look at it. )

-Third Basemen/First Basemen (Known for their abilities with the bat. They will have a good combination of bat control, power and trajectory. Enough to average 20-30 their rookie year, but the best come with either intimidator, or Clutch Hit 5, allowing them to get the job done when needed.)

-Center Fielders (Known more for their speed, but overall, good with their arms and feet. With D everything D except error resistance, these guys can play solid D and O, though they hit more bombs due to their 3 trj, and with the occasional, Spider Catch, these players are very valuable, but very rare to come by.)

-Corner Fielders (If you happen to find one of these rarities, you better snatch them. These guys tend to hit the bomb with their C power and play great D with their D arm and error resistance, but speed and contact are small issues with these positives as rookies.)the long post, but it's what my bro and I found out since it's what we do.

I've never found anybody remotely this good. Mabe af few guys with level 6 pitches, but nothing this god.

Truth is, my brother and I have done this so many times, we found players just like this. And in some cases, when we tried to increase their stats, they would actually make the All Star team, or even the Post Season all by simming. Honestly, we were so bored, we came about this knowledge. As for abilities, we haven't fully figured it out in the Season Draft considering we pick up players from expansion teams sometimes, though things like Triple Crown and played Hockey don't always hold true due to the fact that we've picked up players with those things, and had no attributes, at all. Though Potential may play a role in such attributes where they determine say, maybe how many tools they have? I prefer not to look at it, but hey, it's worth a shot looking at it.

And on a side note, I have NEVER found a fielder with Intimidator, only my brother has, the lucky punk. I found a Closer with Intimidator before, and right now, he's super raw. ;)

Ok, I've heard so many different baseball definitions for raw, and so many other definitions, does anyone have a clear cut straight through definition? You wouldn't believe what I have heard over the years of what it means.

Besides, I'm not that scout savvy.

If I had to define "raw" as it pertains to scout speak: Unrefined potential already possessed.

For example, if a guy has raw power, he can probably hit the ball a mile in batting practice but hasn't learned how to convert his power to in-game success. Maybe he has mechanical issues with his swing, poor balance, poor pitch recognition, touble hitting a specific type of pitch or is having trouble making the jump from aluminum to wood.

Thank you! And after my quest for months to find that clear cut answer, I have finally gotten it.

Once again I say thank you.

Eric, you know your stuff and you also have some great ideas.

Yea, Pitchers are probably the best in this game considering in '07, it was all about hitting. From what I'm getting, they're trying to bridge the gap between offense, defense and pitching, where they are making it more balanced then just focusing on offense, so the pitchers are there ready to dominate. I would think....

I have never drafted a fielder, looked at them after other teams have drafted them but never seen one that I have ever felt worth drafting. This is why I always trade for younger position players: ie zimmerman, either, pence, etc.

Pitchers are different. Always get at least one very promising pitcher that normally starts in bullpen and another that goes to AAA for acouple of years. Example: AAA--98fastball, DR.K, D stamina, F control, no other pitches.....another one I just picked up had 3 level 5 pitches (fork, curve, slider) mid C control D stamina and was only 20 and 4stars works my bullpen in midrielf.

The best fielder I've got had a D in Power, a D in Fielding, 2 TRJ, E's in everything else but contact, F in contact

In '07, I had a DDDBD guy at SS.
In my Norfolk Hawks log, I got a guy that is D B E+ D E!

I hope they make the draft a little more promising in 09 since in o7, the players were ready right when you drafted them. But yea, I've simmed up to 3 years now in season mode, and the players seem to stay the same, they don't get any better. In fact, the pitchers, not so great anymore. And it's worse considering I HAVE to win the World series just to afford my MLB players, though I have been getting some good players for cheap.

Point is, draft, not so trustworthy, and maybe make the draft a total of 5 rounds like they have it in MLB Life.
