To answere Mr welz question i think it would be interesting to see how it works out by trying it out. And if it works than great, but i don't think it can hurt.

Hit circle while running for the ball. Or square makes you sort of slide at it. I'm not sure what the button is for Wii. Probably 1 or 2.
