About edgehogging... I wouldn't do it. To me, it's a cheap and unethical way to win, as is relentlessly spamming certain attacks (like spamming Donkey Kong's ground slap over and over and over and over in a tight area where the other player can't get to a different plane of ground). Personally, I get much more satisfaction out of a battle when I give the other player plenty of room to get back. My friend and I do this. Truly we are WARRIORS.

Well, not really, but you get the idea. Also, don't taunt after someone SD's--as in, when they accidentally go off the screen and go boom by their own mistakes. That ticks people off.

Is there any actual point to taunting?

From that post, I'm guessing you and your friend aren't very good at this game. Edgehogging is easy to get past with pretty much any character, and Donkey Kong's down special is one of the most useless attacks in the game. And what kind of person over 6 years old could get angry at taunting in a video game, especially when they brought it on themselves.

I don't think taunting actually hurts other characters in any way. It's just a neat thing to do occasionally after you've sent your opponent flying. I'd never thought of the edge-hogging thing. Learn something new every day!

On the contrary, my friend pretty much slaps around everyone he plays, and I'm more or less average. We don't do it because it's a cheap way to screw the other player over. I don't get satisfaction out of a fiercely-contested match when something like edgehogging is the end deciding factor. Win with skill, not with cheap tactics. Plus, taunting someone after they SD is rubbing it in, and you're that much more of a prick for doing it.
