Pirates soar past Padres!!

A remarkable performance. No-- it was one for the record books. The Pirates just kept making contact with the ball last night, easily scoring twenty runs and keeping the ball in play thirty times. Though, the Pirates had a good performance, too. They scored eight runs and had eighteen hits. Both teams made no defensive errors, which is awesome!

King Felix came onto the mound and tossed six and a third innings of ball, allowing thirteen hits, striking out five, and letting four runs score. Despite his horible performance on paper, King Felix amazed the crowd as he walked no one and had a no hitter going until the fifth.

Although, Eric O'Flahtery is not to be forgotten. He, too, had a wonderful performance, well, decent. He pitched one inning of ball, allowing four hits, four runs, and striking out one. Eric left the game citing shoulder pains. He's out for fifteen days, making the Betancourt trade even more pressing.

John Grabow came in to finish the game for the Pirates. He pitched one and two thirds of an inning, allowing one hit, striking out two batters, and letting no one score. Management was surprised he didn't intentionally blow the game. "I was expecting him to give up five runs or so and make us worry." Andrew ReLink said about Grabow's performance, "I'm happy he did well though, so he's going to stay until his contract is up."

Player of the Game

The Pirates' pitching wasn't the only good thing in this game. David Wright was ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. It was his first game as a Pirate and he didn't dissapoint. He hit four balls out of the park and drove in seven runs in his Pirate Debut, making him the Player of the Game!

Image
Congratulations, David! You're the player of the game and Pirates' fans love you!

Other Performances of Notice

Chris Snyder and Austin Kearns both were wonderful last night, aswell. Chris belted two big ones and Kearns belted one. What's even more remarkable, however, is how they each came a triple away from hitting a cycle! Let's give these two guys a round of applause!

In other news...

Cody Ross injured himself as he slid into third in the second inning. He's doing well though, and will be starting tomorrow against Chris Young and the Padres. Eric O'Flahtery also injured himself, but he's expected to recover in fifteen days or so.

Evan Meek called up to replace injured Eric

Evan Meek, who has yet to start for the Pirates this year, has been called up to replace the injured Eric O'Flahtery. We wish him luck in his hopeful debut against the Padres tomorrow.

Reporter Three (Miami Herald): What about the Sanchez-Uggla and Bixler-Sanchez trades?

Grady Little: Highway robbery. I didn't expect Marlins' management to be stupid enough to go for the Bixler-Sanchez trade, and the Sanchez-Uggla trade was just... great. I got their best player for my third best. Not to mention I have Cody Ross, someone they could use right now, especially since he's tearing it up. Fourth in RBIs.

Crazed Boston Fan: Boo! Little, you stink! The Socks could have went to the World Series but you blew it! You stink!

The fan went on to throw shoes at Little...

1. you really didn't make any friends with that statement, you know...
2. nice reference to the george bush incident.

anyways, good job, i still say you should get betancourt.

Wait, is that because it was a Miami reporter he talked to, or because you disagree? lol

David Wright Interview

The Press was able to get a word in with David Wright before Game Two against the Padres started. Let's see how it went:

Interviewer: David, how do you like being a Buc?

David Wright: I love it. The management is friendly, always encouraging me to do better.

Interviewer: Yes, yes... however, wouldn't you rather be on the first place Mets?

David Wright: No doubt about that. I would rather be on a first place team, which is why the Pirates will be in first and in the postseason.

Interviewer: Postseason?

David Wright: Are you doubting me? I said the postseason because we're all going to combine our powers and get there!

Interviewer: Alright, alright... how was your performance last night?

David Wright: I'd have to say my best game of the year, if not my career. Anyway, I have to go get ready. I enjoyed talking to you.

Interviewer: Ladies and gentleman, that was David Wright!

Pirates @ Padres - Game Two

This series has gone to the Pirates so far, however an agressive San Diego hopes to tie it tonight. Will they do it? Hopefully not, however there is still a slim chance they might!

On the mound, we'll see John Maine get his first start as a Buc, and he'll be going against a talented Chris Young.

Pirates destroy Chris Young; Betancourt-Chavez-Osoria-Sanchez trade approved! Yankees want to play blockbuster with Pirates, Chamberlain-Bautista trade on ReLink's desk.

Does anyone remember that old Queen song? Y'know, the one that goes "you're a disgrace", well that's what the Padres have been so far. Their pitchers continue to struggle against the stacked Pirates offense. They gave up two grandslams to David Wright and three homeruns to Jose Bautista. They. Cannot. Compete.

The Pirates are probably singing "We Are the Champions" by Queen in the clubhouse!

John Maine had a decent start for the Pirates. He pitched five innings of no hit ball until he gave up nine hits in the fifth. He struck out four batters, and gave up four runs. His first appearance as a Buc was mediocre, but he's expected to gradually improve.

Evan Meek got to throw a few balls around today against the Padres. He gave up nine hits and three runs in two and two thirds innings of play. He also struck out two, which is better than expected in his Major League 2008 Debut.

John Grabow once again came in during this series and had a wonderful game. He pitched one and one third of an inning of ball, giving up four runs, allowing one run, and finally striking out two. So far, not trading him has been a good move, but his playing time will probably be dramatically cut because the Betancourt trade has been approved.

Player of the Game

David Wright
He's been a great pickup so far. He's just been unstoppable. Today, he hit two grandslams! I repeat, TWO grandslams.

Jose Bautista
He was the David Wright of yesterday for today's game. He hit three homeruns and lead the Pirates over the Padres.

Betancourt and Angel Chavez acquired; Chris Gomez and Franquelis Osoria sent away

This is one of the best pickups of the season for the Bucs, behind Wright, of course. Rafael Betancourt, one of the best relievers in the game, was sent from the Indians to the Bucs this afternoon after they approved a trade which would send Chris Gomez and Franquelis Osoria to them in exchange for Angel Chavez, and of course, Betancourt.

Betancourt is expectected to start relieving for the Pirates immediatly. While Angel may stay in Triple-A abit, unless a Chamberlain-Bautista trade goes through with the Yankees.

FINALLY! Jose Bautista wants to stay in Pittsburg, but the Yankees want him in the Bronx!

This is a trade the Bucs recieved immediatly after the Betancourt trade was approved. Andrew ReLink and Grady Little plan on sleeping on it, because Bautista has been hot. He's expressed interest in staying with the Bucs, however, with the Betancourt trade approved, the Bucs have picked up a possible replacement at short...

I need the Pirates' fans to decide. Should Bautista go to the bronx bombers for Chamberlain? That's a bullpen boosting trade, and I can move rookie Angel Chavez to short. O.o;

i say counteroffer so you can get a decent player either
1. at his position
or
2. has his power.

but i think it's a fine trade, if you can spare some power.

I'm going to counter and hope to add Doumit for Chamberlain and Cano. :)

Bautista is currently playing short for me, so I'd move Cano over to short. =)

ReLink tells Cashman no dice; fires off a counter offer

Before the Pirates-Padres game could begin, Andrew ReLink declined the Yankees trade offer that would send off Jose Bautista for young, powerful Joba Chamberlain. Since, he's countered with a trade that would send Doumit and Jose Bautista off to the Yankees for Joba and Robinson Cano.

Dumatrait gets 1-2-3 first inning; Ross hits lead off double...

This is how most of the games have started this year for the Pirates. They'd set the enemy down and then pounce when they have a chance to score...
