I just had a 9 hitter but only 2 of the hits should've been hits, both with 2 out in the 9th. Got robbed of a perfect game by these stupid fielding controls. Ball hit to third basemen, and it controls the second basemen.

Yea, the controls remind me alot of Jack Merluzzi actually. You may control the wrong fielder, just like how he says, "It's popped up" even when it rolls right passed the pitcher.

I kinda hate how bunts are impossible to field. And how the auto fielding always takes L routes to the ball, I could understand the college players, but they're MLB!

Put the CPU fielding on Powerful, then you'll instead be frustrated at how many shoe string and diving catches they make to rob you of hits ;) You won't have to worry about L-routes to the ball.

Can't say I've ever seen it give you control of a player on the opposite side of the infield before. But the fielding is definitely annoying at times.

If you put the CPU fielding on powerful, does it change your fielders in my life mode?

I still can't understand why my fielders cannot run towards the wall as fast as they do away from it, except for the computer controlled ones.

It looks like the one I'm controlling is walking.

Seems more realistic if they go slower outward. They'd have to keep looking back for the ball.

I lost a perfect game a few days ago when a guy hit a soft liner into the gap between 1st baseman and second baseman, it controlled the 1B but I thought that it would control the 2B. It would have been an easy out if not for the stupid fielding controls.

Yeah, the problem is that they move slowly even when the ball is on the ground. So very frustrating, I have to move back and forth diagonally to attempt to counter this.

Regarding controls...

I'll add my two cents on this topic.

Besides the wonky control of players toward a ball in play, I really wish the control for "jump" wasn't the same as "dive". On PS2, this is the X/O, I believe. If you have a dedicated jump button, It'd make it a lot easier to field some of those routine bloop hits the CPU tends to hit.

Also, why is it when players are retreating back to a base, they only do so at a leisurely pace? If they're running towards a bag, they'll go at it full speed but the retreat is more like a jog. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten doubled up on plays like this. It's really annoying.

press and hold the go back button. (I found that in the manual.)

Once I thought I hit a home run and my runner was rounding 2nd (from 1st), but the ball was caught. I was sure that my runner with F run speed was going to get doubled off. But I barely slid in before the ball came in. It was hilarious.
