I'll stick to my fielding percentage.

Assists plus putouts are dependent on the amount of times your are hit too or are involved in plays; therefore, cannot be compared amongst positions in my opinion.

Also, if you are a really good fielder, why would batters want to hit towards you.

Fielding percentage can be compared because it is a normalized value.

I don't necessarily agree on that stat, so much of that is based on one type of pitchers are on the team. If the pitchers on the team are all ground out pitchers, you'll get a lot more put outs. Asisst is a much more valuable stat in terms of relievers. Berkman, I really think your trying to twist things so you can continue to vote for Honus. There are other reasons you haven't covered, but you shouldn't vote based on pre-conceived notions.
Edit: I know this is completely out of the blue, but I've always loved your signature, its definetly one of my favorite baseball quotes.

I'm not trying to convince everybody, but I believe that Honus should be the clear best at shortstop, but many casual fans don't realize this because of his stats, which came from an era when run scoring was incredibly low and fielders didn't use gloves.

Fielding percentage only describes how well a player fields and throws the ball, it does not indicate range. So if you had a guy who had zero range, but never made an error, would you rather have him or a guy with amazing range who makes errors every now and then? I wish they had those modern stats for the old days.

And by the way: Honus didn't use a glove.

By the way again: it's tied :) hope I didn't tick anybody off  . and also smileyfaces, please distinguish between Longball (LB) and LanceBerkman (also LB)

I honestly don't care how someone votes. Some people have favorite players or teams and don't care about the stats. They just love the person. I am tempted to change my vote for Cal Ripken, Jr. Such unbelievable drive for the game of baseball and character, totally subjective. I just convinced myself that I like that better in a hall of famer than any other stat, so I am changing my vote once again.
-------------------
Now, if anyone is trying to make an argument, then lets stick to the facts or statistics.

LB is correct in saying that Honus has more Assists + Putouts than Ernie, but he cannot say he is a better fielder without being subjective.

I can say Ernie has a better Fielding %, but I again I cannot say he was the better fiedler.

Also, remember Honus played during deadball era and so he would have had more balls probably hit on the ground as well; therefore, would have a higher amount of putouts and assists.
------------------
Boy this is a lot of fun!!!!!!

who said I was agreeing with you? jk

Honus was faster than Banks too. more stolen bases, more doubles and triples, and fewer GIDP.

Are you sure (about the glove), I find that hard to believe mate. I know the stats differ from today, but I feel that Banks is good enough in comparison that I'd choose him.

He is no doubt a better fielder, but I still prefer Banks. Plus, Banks really carried the team on his back and stopped them from being a last place team. I'm really fine with either of them, but I prefer Banks all the same.

Even Cownip agrees with me on the defense. And I prefer average and speed far more than another big slugger which this team will have plenty of.

No, even Cownip doesn't, cownip didn't know what he was talking about. Cownip doesn't know much about certain eras of baseball. Cownip feels stupid for agreeing before looking at statistics.

So, let me get this right what you guys are saying is that

Fielding Percentage would translate into Error Resistance in Power Pros, and

Assists plus Putouts would translate into Fielding in Power Pros.

So, for a shortstop, Honus would have B Fielding and D Error Resistance, while Banks would be C Fielding and B Error Resistance.

Honus would have MAX fielding and C or D error resistance. Banks would have 12 or 13 fielding and 2 higher than wagner E-Res.
