8/9 - Cain's Bid At History Broken Up in the Ninth
Matt Cain just missed a perfect game today against the St. Louis Cardinals. He pitched eight complete innings of perfect game ball when Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina blooped a soft lead-off single into center field breaking up the perfect game, and the only hit for the Cardinals in the game. Cain was then taken out and Kerry Wood took care of the last three outs protecting a one-run lead as the Cubs beat the Cardinals 1-0.
