I might try that, but I don't want to screw up my roster just for one eseason. I might do it with 07 though.

Jr. split and I didn't really want to put him on here, because he was more dynamic with the Mariners. I also didn't want any active players on the team.

If this game is ever made, it will take a long time to finish and exibition game as they could go into extra innings until almost nightfall.

Hmm...good debate regarding Randy Johnson (the player). Which team do you put him on? The younger, dominant AL years with the Mariners or the NL, championship winning team with the D-Backs?

The same thing with Gaylord Perry could be argued. He's a HOF'er who had a 20 year career with 8 different teams. Although he played 10 of those for the Giants, he notched his most important achievements as a member of the Indians (won Cy Young), Padres (won Cy Young), and Mariners (won 300th game). Nolan Ryan is another guy, too, who had dominant seasons and accomplishments with a number of different teams.

I guess the best thing about Power Pros is that the Arrange, Trade, and Dream Draft modes are all built in. That way, it gives the owner the choice to move a player to a different team.

I have fun with these.

Red Sox All-Time Team:

C - Carlton Fisk
1B - Jimmy Foxx (L)
2B - Bobby Doerr
3B - Wade Boggs (L)
SS - Joe Cronin
LF - Ted Williams (L)
CF - Dom Dimaggio
RF - Dwight Evans
DH - Carl Yaztrzemski (L)

Bench:
SS - Johnny Pesky
3B - Jimmy Collins
LF - Jim Rice
1B - David Ortiz (L)
C - Rick Ferrell

Pitchers:
SP1 - Cy Young
SP2 - Roger Clemens
SP3 - Pedro Martinez
SP4 - Lefty Grove
SP5 - Luis Tiant
Swingman - Tim Wakefield

The pen would be something of a mess though:

MR - Jeff Reardon
SU - Bob Stanley
SU - Dick Radatz
CL - Jonathan Papelbon

Bleh, but that still wouldn't be a bad team at all...

If Roger doesn't end up with a Sox cap and Cy Young had to be Cleveland's exclusively I guess I'd go with Pedro, Lefty Grove, Smokey Joe Wood, Mel Parnell, and then Luis Tiant. Still not shabby.

1. Jimmie Foxx was not a lefty.
2. If you can include current players (I assume you do because you included Papelbon) then Manny is probably a better choice in RF than Evans (or maybe Fred Lynn?)...
3. Why Tim Wakefield for Swingman when you can have a guy like Josh Beckett or Curt Schilling?
4. Isn't Yaz a better defensive LF than Williams? Yaz should play left, with Williams DH'ing.
5. I love making all-star teams too!

1. My mistake.

2. Manny played a total of 7 games in right field for the Red Sox. None since 2002. He couldn't really field the position in the first place and really couldn't handle Fenway's, which basically requires a guy with a skill set more akin to a center fielder than corner outfielder. I suppose Fred Lynn could be the guy in right even though he played mostly in center. He should be on the bench at worst. I didn't really take what players could theoretically do into consideration for the starters, more what they were.

3. Well because Wakefield actually has been a swingman, unlike Beckett who hasn't done anything but start. Schilling did have that failed experiment as closer but I dont really think that qualifies him. Wakefield's spent a lot of time in the pen as well as in the rotation. He hasn't been as dominant as some but he's up to 164 wins with the team in multiple roles over the years. That's good for third on the all-time list behind Clemens and Cy Young. If he sticks around another couple years he should lock up the all-time innings pitched lead for the team as well.

4. Sounds good to me.

5. Much more fun than talking politics!

Well, Manny did play right during his tenure with the Indians...
And for 3, I understand. Josh Beckett + Curt Schilling in AAA!

Paplebon was their best closer? I don't know if I'd put Clemens on the Sox. His best years were with the Blue Jays and he won his world series with the Yankees. The astros years were the most likely to involve steroids as he was towards the end of his career and probably couldn't have played as well.

The Sox aren't really known for having had great closers. Here's a list of saves leaders dating back a while:

08 Papelbon
07 Papelbon
06 Papelbon
05 Foulke
04 Foulke
03 Kim
02 Urbina
01 Lowe
00 Lowe
99 Lowe/Wakefield
98 Gordon
97 Slocumb
96 Slocumb
95 Aguilera
94 Ryan
93 Russell
92 Reardon
91 Reardon
90 Reardon
89 Smith
88 Smith
87 Gardner
86 Stanley
85 Crawford
84 Stanley
83 Stanley
82 Stanley/Clear
81 Clear
80 Burgmeier

The whole thing is a mess. I think you could throw whoever you want in the pen and make an argument. I'm sure I'm missing some relievers who were good and around a while. There have to be some, right?
