This will be a log in Out of the Park Baseball 2015 (OOTP15 for short) following the Chicago Cubs. The title has nothing to do with the actual log unless it does have something to do with the actual log. You are confused. Also, I deleted a bunch of minor leagues and signed several stud prospects (Juremi Profar, Corey Seager, Raul Mondesi, Julio Urias, and Reese McGuire). Fight me. Also also, I shan't be playing any games in the 2014 season, just playing the GM role, because who actually cares about the 2014 Cubs' record? No one, that's who. I'm going to submit this and start trading all the old people now.

I think you should make a no trade rule.

Or trade Rizzo to the Astros.

That first post was the most YOLO start to a log I've ever seen... I shall follow this one.

Cuz ya know, he traded for Rizzo as the Astros in his last log and he should repeat the trade.

The Cardinals defeated the Tigers 4-2 in the 2014 World Series.

How it all went down for the Cubs, trade-wise:

4/23: Padres send SP Matt Wisler; Cubs send UT Emilio Bonifacio, OF Justin Ruggiano, OF Trey Martin
4/25: Giants send C Andrew Susac, CL Heath Hembree; Cubs send IF Darwin Barney, SP Jeff Samardzija, SP Travis Wood
5/4: Astros send SP Jarred Cosart; Cubs send RP Jose Veras, SS Raul Mondesi, SP Carlos Villanueva
5/4: Rangers send P Colby Lewis, SP Nick Martinez; Cubs send SP Edwin Jackson, RP Joel Pineiro, C Eli Whiteside
7/7: Pirates send 1B Dan Vogelbach; Cubs send SP Jason Hammel, OF Nate Schierholtz (I forced this trade to happen. Deal with it.)
7/25: Padres send 1B Tommy Medica, SP Max Fried, SP Zach Eflin; Cubs send IF Luis Valbuena, RP Kyuji Fujikawa, OF Junior Lake
7/26: Astros send OF Austin Wates, OF Domingo Santana, 1B Jon Singleton, SP Nick Tropeano; Cubs send CL Pedro Strop, SP Victor Pacheco, SP Pierce Johnson (Pacheco has 5* potential)
7/31: Dodgers send P Dan Haren; Cubs send P Colby Lewis (Lewis wouldn’t re-sign :()
7/31: Pirates send OF Nate Schierholtz, $1,400,000; Cubs send IF Edgar V. Gonzalez

Other things that happened:

-OF Ryan Kalish suffered a torn labrum, career-ending injury, had to retire.
-The 15-day DL is now the 11-day DL.
-C John Baker signed via arbitration to a $750,000 contract; team offered $500K, player asked for $1.25M
-Korean SP Won-Sub Lee, 27, signed with the Cubs to a 6-year contract worth $19 million each year; he has 5-star overall and potential ratings!

For my valiant work, I got a score of 36 out of 100. I did 36 lines of cocaine to celebrate jk drugs are bad stay in school kids

You can look at the leaders for a lot of things. Baez was 3rd in the NL in home runs. He wasn't even in the majors the whole year (139 GP).

Pitching Leaders

The 2015 year looks to be another developmental year for the Cubs as they try to get the mass of young talent ready to compete as soon as 2016. The only major changes are the addition of Lee as #1 starter and giving Wates the starting LF job as we lost both Kalish and Lake (injury and trade, respectively). I'm liking what I see from the top 100 prospects list - we have the top two prospects in the league, and 8 of the 100!

Yep, league evolution. In my Astros log the DFA period went from 10 to 11 days. There are settings that you can turn on/off such as whether the DH rule will change

Sorry I haven't updated this for a few days, been busy with school but after I finish my eight thousand essays I should have some more free time

2015 Roundup: (73-89) last place in division, of course. ROUNDUP BY POSITION!

Catcher: Welington Castillo hit .264, backup John Baker only got 99 AB and hit .192, and Andrew Susac started 15 games in September and hit .152 with 3 home runs. Castillo threw out 22 runners (26.8%) with a CERA of 3.96 though, so that wasn't bad. Susac had a CERA of 4.13 but threw out 5 would-be basestealers (29.4%). FUN FACT: Arismendy Alcantara played one inning at catcher, for some reason.

First Base: Anthony Rizzo posted a +5.3 ZR defensively, played 159 games, and went .280/26/89 with 37 doubles and 4.0 WAR (and a 35.1 VORP!!!) Josh Vitters played the most after that, hitting .241/.328/.485, making 17 starts and flashing a bit of leather with a +1.1 Zone Rating.

Second Base: Javier Baez was limited to 105 games with an injury (torn thigh muscle), and he only hit .233, but that came with 21 doubles, 20 home runs and 9 steals. He played decent defense, with a +1.5 ZR. Logan Watkins started most of the games post-Baez; he only hit .236, and was pretty much basura offensively, but he had a nice +3.2 ZR in an even 50 games. Rubi Silva hit .306 while playing some at second, short, third, and all three outfield positions over 48 games.

Third Base: Mike Olt started 101 games, hitting .232 with 17 home runs (he was basically Baez). Christian Villanueva hit .247 and somehow managed 15 doubles and 23 total XBH. Defensively, Olt and Villanueva had very similar Zone Ratings (+2.2 and +2.3, respectively), but Olt played ~1.8 times as many defensive innings as Villanueva.

Shortstop: Starlin Castro hit .326 and had a 1.6 WAR, but he only lasted 67 games due to injury (fractured knee). In his place, Arismendy Alcantara slashed .270/.335/.424, swiping 14 bags, but played atrocious defense. Corey Seager started 15 games in September and hit .306 with 8 XBH, providing a +2.2 ZR on the defensive side.

Outfield: Image

Rotation: Won-Sub Lee was phenomenal, starting 33 games, and going 13-15 with a 2.85 ERA, 221 K, a 6.9 WAR and a 54.6 VORP. Jake Arrieta (32 GS, 8-15, 4.45), Jarred Cosart (31 GS, 10-12, 4.43), C.J. Edwards (28 GS, 5-15, 3.54) and Dan Haren (26 GS, 6-10, 6.01) rounded out the rotation. Kyle Hendricks (0-6, 8.17) and Matt Wisler (3-2, 4.31) each started six games late in the season.

Bullpen: Hector Rondon was 33/36 in save opps in 2014, with a 2.86 ERA. Setup men Justin Grimm (team-leading 73 appearances, 13 holds, 4.24 ERA), Wesley Wright (10 HLD, 1.48 ERA, 61 G), and Heath Hembree (9 HLD, 3.43 ERA, 37 G) helped bridge the gap between Rondon and either a rotation member or middle relievers like Brian Schlitter (56 G, 5-2, 3.76), Alberto Cabrera (52 G, 3-1, 4.06), Arodys Vizcaino (32 G, 3-4, 5.71), and Casey Coleman (35 G, 1-0, 2.28). Zac Rosscup was called up as a LOOGY in September, appearing in 15 games with a 2.45 ERA. Yoanner Negrin (5 G, 1.42) and trade acquisition Alex Cobb (4 G, 14.73) also were called up in September.

2016 Preview coming soon!

Oh, and Cleveland won the World Series, if you care.

2015 Offseason Recap

We picked up the option year on outfielder Ryan Sweeney. Pitchers Justin Grimm (3 years, $12M) and Jake Arrieta (2 years, $2.3M) were re-signed. The arbitration judge ruled in favor of the team on Hector Rondon, who got $1.6M, and in favor of the player on Alex Cobb, who got $3.416M. RHP Arodys Vizcaino and catcher John Baker were non-tendered. Josh Vitters was traded to Cleveland for Jason Kipnis. The only other move made was trading Nate Schierholtz, Christian Villanueva, and Tommy Medica to Miami for [b]Jarrod Saltalamacchia and RHP Nick Wittgren.

April 2016 Recap

The Cubs were pathetic as usual. Everyone sucked, and I made a bunch of lopsided trades - in the other team's favor, of course. Also, we have fifteen players on the DL. HAHA SIKEEEEEE we were 9-7. The back end of our bullpen (Grimm, Hembree, Rondon) has been strong; Cosart and Wisler have been very good, and Won-sub Lee has been lucky enough to maintain a solid ERA despite iffy peripherals (1.6 HR/9, yikes). The middle men in our bullpen (Wright, Cabrera, Wittgren) have been so horrible, though, that our relief ERA is 12th in the NL, sitting at a pleasant 5.29. Offensively, Baez and Brett Jackson have been above-average, Alcantara and Rizzo have been decent, and Saltalamacchia's been solid behind the plate (2.45 cERA), and might find himself playing more often. We were even worse than this at one point; Sweeney's been hovering around or below .100 all month, Kipnis was hitting .080-something at one point...I honestly have no clue how this team is 9-7. Also, the only transaction we made was sending down Yoanner Negrin (before we played any games) to activate Rondon off the DL. LHP Brian Schlitter will be back in about two weeks, and that should help shore up our barf-tastic middle relief.

May 2016 Recap

To kick everything off, LHP Wesley Wright tore the flexor tendon in his elbow and is out a full year to recover. After a month and three weeks of decent-ness, I had had enough. I made two trades, sending Welington Castillo and Jason Kipnis to Texas for LHPs Robbie Ross and Matt Harrison. The other trade sent Justin Grimm, Mike Olt, and Rubi Silva to the Rockies for Wilin Rosario and RHP Adam Ottavino. With the exception of Castillo, every player we traded was struggling majorly, and after acquiring Rosario, I needed to trade a catcher. Ross and Harrison filled a gaping hole in our bullpen - that is, the role of "left-handed pitcher". We then called up infielders Jon Singleton and Kris Bryant. Bryant stepped into the starting role at third, moving Starlin Castro back to shortstop and Javier Baez over to second base.
Arrieta and Cosart are both pitching extremely well, and Lee has been solid as well. Our bullpen has been much better after the adds of Harrison, Ross, and Ottavino, and Rondon and Hembree are a combined 11/12 in save opps this year. On the offensive side, Alcantara absolutely sucked this month, but everyone else really seemed to improve or at least stay consistent with what they put up last month. Here's hoping to a run to the playoffs (or a total disaster so we get a good draft pick)! We'll see you in about a week, when the draft takes place!

2016 Draft

We picked 8th in the first round. High school infielder Bo Bichette was selected first overall by Arizona.

1. RHP Ryan Burr - Burr, a 22-year-old out of Arizona State, was 8-3 with a 2.32 ERA last season for the Sun Devils. He throws in the mid-90s, with good stuff, solid movement, and okay control. (Signed 6/9, $2.4M)
2. RHP Maddux Conger - Conger, 19, was 8-5 with a 3.03 ERA last season for the UT-Arlington Mavericks. He also throws in the mid-90s, with a changeup that projects to be a real weapon in the future. (Signed 6/8, $670K)
3. CF Grant Bodison - Bodison, 18, is an excellent defender in both left and center field who is a fan of the little things, such as bunting and being patient at the plate. (Signed 6/10, $340K)
4. SS Gavin Lux - Lux, 18, is a polished defender and looks as if he could become a good, balanced hitter in the future. (Signed 6/13, $230K)
5. 3B Luke Borders - Borders, 21, is a good defender at both corner infield positions, who could become a decent power-hitting threat. (Signed 6/18, $150K)
6. 1B Dylan Creech - Creech, 22, was drafted as a catcher by the Cubs. He profiles as a below-average player in all facets of the game, however. (Signed 6/6, no bonus)
7. RHP Jack Smith - Smith, 18, is a real flamethrower. He can hit triple digits with his great fastball, and projects to have good control. He will likely wind up as a reliever, though, as his only offspeed pitch is a changeup. (Did not sign.)
8. RHP Colby Wyatt - Wyatt, 18, can also hit 100 with his fastball; he struggles with his control, and his curveball is barely usable. (Signed 6/6, no bonus)
9. RHP Connor Manous - Manous, 17, throws high-90s heat and is a groundball pitcher, with good movement on his fastball and curveball. His stamina and control, however, both need work. (Signed 6/6, no bonus)
10. 1B Jack Hazlett - Hazlett is a pure athlete who stole 34 bases at Rice this season, with a .682 OPS. He will almost certainly be moved to the outfield, where he has more experience and the skill set to thrive. (Signed 6/6, no bonus)
11. LHP Cody McGill - McGill is a knuckleballer. A 24-year-old, left-handed knuckleballer. (Signed 6/6, no bonus)
12. CF Justin Cobb - After being drafted in the 16th round last year by the Cubs, Cobb attended USC for a year, where he hit .260 and stole 34 bases in 36 attempts. Cobb has good speed, tremendous baserunning instincts, and a knack for playing killer outfield defense - he can play all three positions well. (Signed 6/6, no bonus)
13. RF Jairus Richards - Richards is a utility player who hit .273 with 36 stolen bases last year at Missouri. (Signed 6/6, no bonus)
14. LHP Matt Walker - (Did not sign.)
15. RHP Nick Eicholtz - (Did not sign.)
16. C Cole Halfacre - (Did not sign.)

June 2016 Recap

We extended Jarred Cosart for 4 years/$5.7M just before the draft. After the draft, in which we picked up several solid young prospects, a trade was announced. The deal, with Miami, sent RHP Alberto Cabrera, minor-league infielder Dustin Geiger, first-base prospect Jon Singleton, and minor-league outfielder Eloy Jimenez in exchange for RHPs Hudson Boyd and Brett Bochy, C/1B Chad Wallach, and veteran infielder Reid Brignac. Bochy joined the major league club, Brignac was placed on the 40-man roster but sent to AAA, and Boyd and Wallach were assigned to Double-A Tennessee. In the aftermath of the trade, center fielder Albert Almora was recalled from AAA and joined the starting lineup, taking the spot of the injured Matt Szczur. On the 18th, it was announced that Starlin Castro had torn ankle ligaments and would have to be placed on the 60-day DL; Corey Seager was recalled and took his spot in the lineup. The next day, veteran 1B Paul Konerko signed a contract worth a prorated $1,600,000 for the remainder of the year.
As for the team, they went 14-13 in the month of June, and have now been above .500 in each month this season. The bullpen has been generally good, the rotation has been consistent, and some of the bats are really starting to pick up. The catcher position is still a question mark, however, as the combination of Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Wilin Rosario has been below-average, though Rosario has been solid on the defensive end.
