Season Ends, No Playoffs for Friars

Padres: 6
@
Giants: 3

W: Robbie Erlin 1-0
L: Doug Fister 14-9
S: Huston Street (41)
HR: Joey Accacia (1), Yasmani Grandal (10)

San Francisco -- Robbie Erlin had quite a fine first career MLB start tonight as the season closed out. It was the last chance for the rookies to make their debuts and two Pads had great nights. First, Robbie Erlin, dealt 6 innings of 3 run ball, striking out 3. The other, Joey Accacia, went 1-4, with a 3-run home run in his first career MLB at bat.

Nothing happened in the first, but the second inning is when the Padres got started. Chris Denorfia led off the inning by striking out, but Jedd Gyorko and Willie Dickinson pieced back-to-back singles. The next batter, Joey Accacia smashed a 3-R HR to left, in his first career at bat. He was given the silent treatment on his way back to the dugout. In the fourth, it was still 3-0, and Jedd Gyorko led off the inning with a triple to center past the diving Angel Pagan. Willie Dickinson came up and grounded out but Gyorko scored to make it 4-0. Erlin shut the door until the sixth when the Giants exploded. Posey led off with a pinch hit, and Pagan singled him over. Then Belt struck out, and Sandoval juiced the bases reaching on a Willie Dickinson error. Mike Morse came up and hit a sac fly to make it 4-1. Then, Pence reached base on an error by Robbie Erlin, bases loaded again. Tony Cruz came up, and singled home Pagan and Sandoval to make it 4-3. It stayed the same score til the 9th, when the Padres got some insurance. Yasmani Grandal led the inning off with a lead-off pinch hit home run, his 10th of the year. Cameron Maybin, then smashed a double down the left field line. Yonder Alonso came up next, and singled him home, making it 6-3. Huston Street came in in the 9th for the Padres and shut the door for his 41st save.

April Analysis
The Padres up and pooped their pants in April going 13-15 ending the month with a 4-9 record. Andre Ethier has been quite an asset to the team so far though, batting .338 with 3 homers and 8 runs knocked in. Jedd Gyorko has been the main run producer for the team, knocking in 13, with a .273 batting average. Cameron Maybin and Everth Cabrera have combined to swipe 23 bases in 26 attempts. Andrew Cashner and Michael Pineda have been good although neither has really got the run support to make them great yet. Pineda is 2-3 with a 2.08 ERA, and Cashner is 2-0 with a 2.75. All but two of the team' swims have been saved by Paco Rodriguez. You would think that is great, but it's not, meanwhile, he's blown 3 saves already, as he's 11 for 14.

Padres' May Analysis
The Padres fortunately avoided ending May on a horrendous 9-game losing streak by pulling out the last game 1-0 in a gem by Andrew Cashner. The Padres are sitting at 26-31, 4th in the division, but only 8 and a half out of first. There's no saying that the Padres can't come back from this deficit, as the team has still been promising. Everth Cabrera leads the team in hits, bouncing back big from last year, as he's currently batting .303 with 4 homers. The Padres have had huge issues hitting home runs though, which is why they can't get much offense going. Gyorko leads the team with 8 and Ethier is in second with 7. Gyorko also leads the team in RBI at 31. Andrew Cashner has been the soul of the team's defense, as he's gone 6-1 with a 2.77 ERA. The other members of the rotation, Johnson, Erlin, Pineda, and Luebke, have combined for 11 wins, all with 3 except Luebke. Michael Pineda has been solid as well on the mound, getting little to no run support. He is 3-5 with a 2.84 ERA. Paco Rodriguez has not been good as the closer, going for a 5.09 ERA and is 18/26 in save opportunities.

Cody Cole makes first big blockbuster deal!

San Diego -- In the last two years, the Yankees and Padres have been trading partners. The Padres have reportedly sent Cory Luebke, prospect Fred Kenny, and catcher Rene Rivera to the Yankees in exchange for CF Jacoby Ellsbury, prospect starter Adolfo Ybarra, and SP Alfred Aceves.

San Diego -- The Padres and Royals have reportedly struck a deal that will send C Nick Hundley to the Royals in exchange for prospect SP Yordano Ventura. The Royals said they wanted to deal away Ventura, and Cody Cole believes he took advantage of this.

July Analysis
The Padres had another average month, now with a 54-55 record, tied with the Giants, 10.5 games out of first place. Jacoby Ellsbury has been great since joining the Padres. He's batting .307 with 11 homers and 53 RBI this year. Jedd Gyorko has also been a great asset for the Padres this year, batting .292 with 19 homers and 67 RBI. Willie Dickinson has been solid as a rookie for the Friars, batting .272 with 13 homers and 49 RBI. Jacoby Ellsbury, Everth Cabrera, and Cameron Maybin have been a scary trio on the base paths for all catcher, going 44/48, 27/39, and 23/30 in stolen base attempts in order. Pitching-wise, Andrew Cashner has been an ace. He's 9-5 with a 2.83 ERA in his 22 starts this year. Johnson is 9-8 with a 3.51, Erlin is 7-7 with a 3.70, Pineda is 4-7 with a 3.32, and Aceves is 3-11 with a 5.10 on the season. Paco Rodriguez has been too atrocious in save opportunities, going 35/45.
