Blue Jays acquire Venable from Pads for Rasmsu and Hunter

Toronto -- The Blue Jays acquired CF Will Venable from the Padres in exchange for CF Colby Rasmus and prospect 3B J.T. Hunter. Hunter is a top prospect that should emerge onto the scene for the Padres almost immediately.

Padres August Analysis
The Padres have been one of the biggest surprises in the MLB this season, as almost no one expected that they would be where they are now during March. The Friars are sitting 72-63, 3rd in the division and securing a Wild Card spot, barely. The Padres have out up horrid hitting stats, but are 2nd in the NL in team ERA, at 3.33 behind only the Nationals at 3.26. Yonder Alonso has gone a bit cold since the season started, but is still batting .293 with 16 jacks and 63 runs batted in. Andre Ethier has put up terrific stats for a man of his age though, batting .313 with 26 homers and 81 RBI. Jedd Gyorko has also brought some power numbers, hitting a career-high 23 home runs so far. Everth Cabrera has stolen 68 bases in 85 attempts so far this year and has been a huge threat on the base paths. Joaquin Benoit has been the fireman you want. He is 9-2 out of relief, with a 2.21 ERA. Dale Thayer has been quite a reliever as well, posting a 2.33 ERA and 5-1 record. Huston Street has also been near-perfect, with a 2.96 ERA and going 31/34 in save opportunities. Cory Luebke has been the big story for the Padres, going 12-3 so far with a 3.05 ERA. Among the other starters, Johnson is 10-10, Cashner 9-9, Ross 9-6, and Pineda 9-14, no one has come close to Luebke's success.
