Waiver Wire Report

Today, it was announced that the Brass Knuckles have released COL RP Rex Brothers to Sunday-deadline Waivers, and have subsequently picked up COL RP LaTroy Hawkins to replace him in the lineup. This move is probably because Hawkins will be in line for more saves for the Rockies this year than Brothers, but Brothers could help any team in the league with ERA and K points, but not necessarily saves until he earns the role completely.

Chris Archer is DEFINITELY not worth Jason Heyward.

I was trying to find an impending replacement for Corbin. I thought Archer was the best possibility to find that replacement. I may have overpaid for him with Heyward - I'll fully admit to that - and I'll try to get a waiver claim in to fill the hole.

So, yes, I was probably stupid making that trade. Hopefully it will pay off for me.

It's much much much easier to find a back end pitcher on waivers than it would be to find a number three outfielder. The difference between Lincecum or Colon and Corbin is fairly small. The difference between Carter or Byrd and Heyward is huge!

If he's lucky, he might be able to pry away someone like CJ Wilson, as so long as he's willing to offer Alex Gordon. Because, you know, that would be a fair trade

I read that Medlen is fine actually, just a forearm strain or something like that. Hopefully he's fine for the beginning of the season, if that's changed tell me though.

Preseason Week 1
Two trades were executed in the past week. The first consisted of the Mendenhals trading OF Jason Heyward to the Swingers for SP Chris Archer. This trade is, how do we say, lopsided? Okay, the trade is terrible for the Mendenhals. They give away a number three outfielder for a replacement level pitcher. It seems that after the injury to Patrick Corbin, the Mendenhals owner panicked a bit, and the Swingers took advantage, basically commiting Highway Robbery. There's a chance that this trade could end up being league vetoed however, just like the Price-Miley trade last year (also featuring the Swingers). It already has two veto votes, and if it get another two by 8 PM Wednesday, it would be called off.

The other trade of the week was the Rhinos trading OF Michael Bourn to Pickles for new Braves SP Ervin Santana. I actually really like this trade. While the Pickles already have a speedster in Revere, their outfielders as a whole are fairly week, so any depth is helpful. This however leaves them with a hole in the staff, unless they actually plan on using McCarthy. Focusing on the Rhinos, this helps build back up that rotation, which has been decimated by elbow injuries to both Jarrod Parker and Kris Medlen. Bourn will probably be replaced by new pick-up Chris Carter, who despite being the millionth first baseman on the roster, can also play outfield. Speaking of...

There were two free agent acquisitions this week two. The Rhinos dropped injured pitcher Parker for recently mentioned outfielder Carter. This is a no-brainer, as having a player out for the reason on the roster would be stupid. The other change was the Spartans dropping OF Nate Schierholtz for young Angels OF Kole Calhoun. Calhoun broke through last season after the injury to Pujols, and if he can hold down the leadoff spot in the lineup, he should see a healthy amount of runs, while putting up an average average and contributing 10, maybe 15 homers and steals with upside for more.

I love my first basemen.
