Their mascot is creepy...

And I agree with Skittles. I think it takes a while to adjust to a new team name. I didn't like it when they first announced it, but I like it just fine, now.

Also, my fantasy basketball team is leading the league in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and is 4th in blocks. :) I'd be killing if we were doing roto, but we're doing H2H. And I still have the most points by 200+.

You have to love the online sports community. I can't remember the last time I've won a game without receiving several degrading messages out of varying degrees of anger.

This is my rough draft for an essay I'm doing about performance-enhancing drugs in the MLB in English class. I decided I'd post it here for you guys to see.

Performance-Enhancing Drugs in the MLB
Back when the 90’s began, Bud Selig, the commissioner of the MLB, went from training camp to training camp warning general managers about the potency of performance-enhancing drugs in the MLB and how they could corrupt baseball. Mr. Selig told the GM’s to make sure there was no use of any type of steroids in the clubhouse or anywhere that pertained to the team. At the winter meeting that year, 27-year-old pitcher, Rick Helling, who was also the player representative for his team stood up while the representatives were talking about steroids and warned the others that many players had already started taking steroids and it was tainting the game.

Later in this decade, after Selig had thought he had researched enough, he declared that
such a small amount of players were actually using steroids now that it had become almost
nonexistent. In his words, “The dragon has been slain, and the so-called steroid era is over”.
Obviously, as the problem still rages on today, Selig was wrong. There have been many other
steroid users since the 90’s including; Mark McGwire, Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, Ryan
Braun, Barry Bonds, and many more.

This era has been going on from 1991 until now and the problem has still not been
conquered. Although steroids had been declared illegal in the MLB in 1991, implementing PED
testing throughout the league was not established until 2003. Once testing had begun, many more
players have been busted in their use of PED’s. Even though Selig threatens suspensions to all
players who test positive in PED testing, the use of steroids has not seemed to dwindle at all
since these suspensions have been made.

Since steroids had started to become widely used in the MLB, many different records
have been broken. In 1998, Mark McGwire, who was playing for the St. Louis Cardinals at the
time, broke the single season home run record held by Roger Maris, who had hit 61 home runs,
by hitting 70 home runs. Three years later, Barry Bonds, another player who later confirmed that
he had been using steroids, hit 73 home runs setting a new record for home runs in a season.

While the use of steroids has given quite a jolt to the offensive output in baseball, players
using steroids have not made it fair for other players who want to keep the game clean. Many
suspensions have been handed out by the MLB since testing has started including suspensions
that could reach up to 100 games. In August 2013, the MLB tried to suspend Alex Rodriguez for
the rest of the 2013 MLB season and the whole 2014 season. This suspension would have totaled
214 games. Rodriguez appealed his suspension, and the MLB was not able to suspend him for
the rest of the 2013 campaign as “A-Rod” continued playing for the New York Yankees. If the
MLB really wants to finish off steroids, the consequences will have to become more severe.

It's a good start. Might want to expand more as to the types of PEDs, and how they are connected to baseball (steroids, HGH, perhaps testosterone), but that's just my opinion. Otherwise, it's looking pretty good so far.

Looks like a good start, Zero, but a few questions/comments:

- Just wondering, what was the prompt?
- You did a good job providing background, but it doesn't look like you've made a clear assertion in your intro paragraph. Based on your concluding sentence, I'm assuming you're claiming that punishments for steroids need to increased. Maybe include a sentence like "While the MLB has spent over two decades fighting the use of performance enhancing drugs, their efforts have ultimately been ineffective and must be increased if there is any hope of creating truly clean league."
- The argument is well constructed, but there are a few parts where voice and style could be improved. I've highlighted some spots where I've changed things up a bit/made comments:

ZeroGibson13 wrote:

Later in this decade ("this decade"... do you mean "the decade" as in the 90's?), once Selig felt that he had sufficiently researched the issue, he declared that
a small enough amount of players were actually using steroids now that it had become almost
nonexistent. In his words, “The dragon [had] been slain, and the so-called steroid era is over”. <--- use brackets to alter a quote to stay in the appropriate tense.
Obviously, as the problem still rages on today, Selig was wrong. Numerous other
steroid users have been outed since the 90’s including: Mark McGwire, Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, Ryan
Braun, Barry Bonds, and many more.

This "steroid era" has continued since 1991 and the problem has still not been
conquered. Although steroids were declared illegal by the MLB in 1991, PED
testing throughout the league was not established until 2003 (the "implemented" at the beginning didn't make sense). Once testing begun, many more
players were busted in their use of PED’s (make sure you stay in past tense). Even though Selig threatens suspensions to all
players who test positive in PED testing, the use of steroids has not seemed to dwindle. ("at all since these suspensions have been made" was just fluff and took away from the power of this statement)

Since steroids started to become widely used in the MLB, many different records
have been broken (got rid of "had"). In 1998, Mark McGwire, who was playing for the St. Louis Cardinals at the
time (is this necessary information?)
, broke the single season home run record held by Roger Maris, who had hit 61 home runs,
by hitting 70 home runs (Awkward sentence, try condensing this information). Three years later, Barry Bonds, another player who later confirmed that
he had been using steroids, set the single season home run record by hitting 73 in 2001. (it was grammatically correct the way you had it but awkward.)

While the use of steroids has given quite a jolt to the offensive output in baseball (maybe say something about it helping the MLB increase revenue after the 1994 strike?), players
using steroids have not made it fair for other players who want to keep the game clean. Many
suspensions have been handed out by the MLB since testing has started, including suspensions
reaching up to 100 games. In August 2013, the MLB tried to suspend Alex Rodriguez for
the rest of the 2013 MLB season and the whole 2014 season. This suspension would have totaled
214 games, but Rodriguez appealed his suspension, and the MLB was not able to suspend him for
the rest of the 2013 campaign as “A-Rod” continued playing for the New York Yankees. If the
MLB really wants to finish off steroids, the consequences will have to become more severe (This is a good idea that could use some more development, maybe make a separate concluding paragraph that adds more?)

I hope this comes across as helpful and not rude... heh. Really though, it's a good start.

Also, if this is supposed to just be an informational essay, ignore the last red comment and the second bullet point up at the top. Those are only if this is supposed to be argumentative, which I'd assume it is since most essays written for school are (at least in my experience).
