What is the best character you've created without using the S/L (cheat)?.. I realize there is no way to verify so keep it honest.. Also, what is an 'average' character using this method?

S/L is not a cheat. It is a strategy. :o

I think my best non-save/load character is a left fielder who has C contact, E power, C speed, D fielding, and a B arm. He'd actually be a pretty useful major league considering how the game rates players. Maybe .300, 25 SB, 5 HR, and a dangerous arm in left. Pretty sure he has a couple hot zones in the middle and middle-in as well as [firstball hitter].

Is it even possible in this game? I did it all the time in '07 but in '08 if you don't S/L you will get injured and kicked off the team for not averaging 2 HR and 5 hits a game.

I've done it several times. It's pretty easy with Pitchers, but if you're not good with the bat I highly advise purchasing the Prince's Necklace to simplify things. Another key is only practicing when your vitality is high. Maybe only doing slightly 'iffy' practices to finish out Week 4's. I can usually get a character around all C's but with D Power. Or B Power when creating for example; Catcher that needs no run spd.. 1B that needs no Arm Strength.. etc.

The first time I did success mode I did not know about S/L so this was my character. 4 TRJ, 221 Pwr, 5 Run Spd, 5 Fld, 5 Er Res, and very little abilties.

I just can't bring myself to s/l. I don't have the patience, and I don't think its as fun. So I guess all my players are "legit".

I've made almost a full team, and my learning curve is apparent. The first players I made were nowhere near as good as the players I'm rolling off now.

I can post their stats later when I get home, if anyone wants to see them.

players are legit if you s/l or not, only if you use something like a drive doctor to hack the wii to max your guy out is it not legit.

Well, I'd call S/L an exploit. You're getting unintended results by manipulating the save feature.

if they had meant for it to be a part of the game, they would have put a button to reroll your practice right when you do it. But where's the fun in that?

Playing with blatantly better character, like a maxed S/L player, removes the element of skill, and with that goes a lot of the fun.

Granted, you can do whatever you want with the game to get your rocks off. Hell, use the game disk as a frisbee for all I care. But that's just my two cents.

I don't remember the specifics, but off the top of my head...
Lou Gherig, 1B
2/3 trajectory, B power, C/D contact, e arm strength, e fielding, e error restistance, golden glove (to make my fielder and average fielder), power hitter (gets around 30 a year), contact hitter possibly, hot hitter (or whatever you get from stittch in the first time besides good after previous hitter hits) 2bb, contact hitter, clutch hitter 5, and some more I forget. This was my first try.

i havent been able to complete this year's success mode with any character. :(

the opposing teams keep getting solid contact off of all of my best pitches combined with horrible fielding and an unreliable offense and the fact that for some reason every ball hit back to my pitcher goes right through him :x

as a hitter second basemen and third basemen keep robbing me of hits....its so frustrating!! Or even worse, i make great contact with a pitch and the ball goes right at an outfielder and i suddenly realize that if i had tried to hit for a homerun...it might have actually been a homerun.

it just takes some time to get used to it.

my first couple characters made it on luck alone, i had no idea what i was doing. then i gained a clue, and when i tried, i finished. but then, i got into this rut where i sorta knew what i was doing, and i was trying to structure my players, and i just couldnt get ANY to pass.

but ive gotten out of that rut, and now every time i want a character made, i can pound it out in an hour or so. hell, my last guy stopped getting scout or coach points in mid july because he maxed out both bars. as well as getting sittchs original pitch and good sense from frank.

you just gotta put in some time and learn when you have to pay attention to what, and when you can forget about it
