Why isn't he going to play until 2009?

Tim Redding is disappointed that he has to go to the DL, but knows it is necessary for his health.

Chicago Cubs (10-13) @ Washington Nationals (10-14)
April 26th, 2008

Washington -- The Nationals got a nice win tonight, as Odalis Perez pitched another gem. Perez went 5 and 2/3 allowing no runs on 6 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. On the other side, Jon Lieber pitched 4 and 1 thirds innings allowing 1 run on 7 hits and he struck out 3. Ryan Zimmerman had a great game going 4-4 with an RBI and a run scored. For the Cubs, Aramis Ramirez supplied the offense going 3-4.

Final Score
Cubs - 0
Nationals - 3

WP: Odalis Perez 2-1 | LP: Jon Lieber 1-3 | SV: Chad Cordero (5)
HR:

Jon Lieber L 4.1IP 7H 3K 1R 1ER
Derrek Lee 2-4
Aramis Ramirez 3-4

Odalis Perez W 5.1IP 6H 7K 1BB 0R 0ER

Nationals Trade Setup

To get rid of:
SP Odalis Perez (91 CB 3CUT 3CB 2CHG) 1yr/$7,750,000
CL Chad Cordero (93 CE 4SLD 3CHG) 1yr/$4,150,000
C Paul Lo Duca (2DCEDDC) 1yr/$6,250,000
SS Cristian Guzman (2DDBFCB) 1yr/$4,200,000
RF Austin Kearns (3DCDDCC) 2yrs/$5,500,000

Position Depth (Weak, Balanced, Deep)
SP - The Nationals have Chico, Hill, Perez, Bergmann, Lannan, and O'Connor in the rotation which could just be the weakest in the MLB. Kershaw getting called up will help, but the Nats need to acquire a few good players here.

RP - Washington's bullpen looks alright currently, so they're not going after any relievers at the moment.

CL - Chad Cordero's 6.14 April ERA explains this. He didn't have a good month, but the Nationals and Andrew Cashner have been looking to make a deal so Cashner could take over the late innings work.

C - The Nats have Lo Duca and Estrada here. When they get rid of Lo Duca, Estrada is an easy replacement, and they have Flores in AAA.

1B - Nick Johnson and Dmitri Young are two solid first basemen, so I don't see the Nats going after any first baggers.

2B - With Ronnie Belliard and Felipe Lopez here, the Nationals shouldn't need any second basemen.

SS - Cristian Guzman will be traded, but Felipe Lopez is a solid replacement, shortstop is one of the last priorities of trade focus.

3B - They have Ryan Zimmerman here, but they don't have anyone to take over after an injury, so the Nats need to look for a backup third bagger.

OF - Kearns, Milledge, Dukes, and Pena are all solid outfielders but the Nationals need to find a star to step up and be the captain of the outfield.

Matt Chico is a jerky-hating vegetarian?
