I haven't heard of a good portion of them either, but that can be attributed to the age of the game and the fact that all the rookies except for Francis are computer generated players.

The Colorado Rockies started off the season at home against division rivals the San Diego Padres. Joe Kennedy started on the mound for the Rockies and went seven strong, allowing two runs in the second inning but nothing further. Meanwhile, Jake Peavy matched him pitch for pitch, allowing just two runs in the third. After Peavy was replaced by a pinch hitter in the top of the seventh, Blaine Neal came on in relief. He worked through his first inning unscathed, but hung a slider in the eighth that Todd Helton took advantage of, yanking a good 400 feet over the wall in right field. With the Rockies in the lead, Brian Fuentes was summoned in the 9th and retired the Padres' 2-3-4 hitters in order, notching the save and closing out the Rockies' first win of the year. After an off day tomorrow, the Rockies will play the Padres again on Wednesday the 6th.

In a 14-inning saga, the Rockies fell short, 3 to 2, to the San Diego Padres. Jeff Francis pitched a solid 6.1 innings, allowing just 6 baserunners, but gave up two home runs. Denny Neagle and Chin-Hui Tsao combined to throw the next 4.2 innings, striking out 6 between the two of them. The Padres finally broke the tie in the 14th with a home run off the bat of Phil Nevin. The Rockies were shut down in the bottom half and officially fell to 1-1.

Tomorrow is a travel day for the Rockies, who fly to San Francisco tomorrow to face off against the Giants for a three-game weekend set. Then, the team will take off to Arizona to play the Diamondbacks.
