Who cares if there's risks? Really!? My God! Look at the Red Sox for example. Their signings of Crawford and Gonzalez were supposed to push them from a wild card contender to the World Series favorite. But then they implode, and only by the stupidity of LA, they could trade off all the salary. Now, Boston isn't a contender, but they can build for the future.

But Hamilton is no Crawford or Gonzalez. He may be a better player, but he has so much more baggage with all the problems he's had. If he had signed with the Phillies and then go on to dissapoint, I don't know who'd take him. You guys would be stuck with him, leaving the Phillies in worse shape than before, and you'd continue to complain/vent about every single move the organization makes

Well then, what do you suppose they do instead?

With or without Hamilton, their window is closing and they need an impact player in the outfield. They can't rely on only Utley/Howard (who are ? within themselves) + an unproven rookie in Ruf as their main power sources. I say you take the chance that he's still a star-type player within the next 2+ seasons while their window to compete is still open. Besides him, I'm not into the available FA options and trades for a guy like Giancarlo or Justin Upton are not happening. If they don't get a major power bat, as a fan you have to hope Howard and Utley have resurgences, Ruf puts up power numbers in the majors, and the others in the lineup are at least decent. Besides the names mentioned, the starting OF as of now have a total of 16 career homers. Unless the pitching holds up, and Utley/Howard do better with a full season, I don't see how, even with a guy like Swisher/Ross, that they could win a World Series, or even make a deep run in the playoffs. In my mind, Hamilton might have pushed them into that spot.

Then again, we'll see what happens. How the moves they've done so far can be assessed will be based on whatever else they do by the end of the offseason.

Well, looks like this conversation can be altered severely. Hamilton has signed with the Angels, thus putting him on a team with a young star (Trout) and a legend (Pujols).

Phillies, what's wrong with a guy like Swisher or Ross. The Giants have won two of the last three WS without any big FA signings. Sure, they traded for Pence this season, but you can't say he was the difference. They won with a group of underdogs and home grown talent, I.E. Sandoval, Posey, Belt, Cain, Bumgarner. Them, along with underrated, undervalued talent and chemistry is why won. Obviously, S-Jax knows more about the Giants than I do, so he'd be able to elaborate more on this than I could

I am making a very risky move for fantasy this week. I am in the first round of the play-offs out of 6 teams, I am the 5-seed. I am playing the 4-seed, my dad, and really need a win this week. I am using the Titans defense instead of the Patriots becuase the Titans are playing the Jets. Smart move? Or dumb move?

Edit: Currently making a Josh Reddick right now: 3EBBBEF. Going for 3EAAAEF and I'm in the 3rd go-around out of 4. Who thinks I can get it? What are my chances?

Meh. I still don't like the Angels pitching. If they make a move for Dickey, I'll be singing a different tune.

As for the Rangers, they still have a good ball club and enough cash/prospects to make significant moves. If they sign Swisher/Bourn and/or trade for Dickey, I'm not sure they aren't better off than they would have been giving J-Ham $25/yr and calling it good.

STUPID. PERSON. IS. STUPID. Not much else I can say.

Really not anything you can say. From what I can gather that is probably the worst nightmare for a parent and teacher. Horrible. I really hate hearing of massacres, but this one hit me especially hard. 18 innocent children. I'll keep that town in my thoughts and prayers.

As a parent with kids that age, who I love more than anything or anyone . . . I can't even comment. It just breaks my heart. I'm going home to hug my kids now.
