Cmon Warriors, you can do it. By the way, are the other teams just all-gray-barred players?

July 3rd, 2009

One of the most exciting games of the season ended with Ryan Howard hitting a walk off home run in the bottom of the 11th. The Warriors had a early 3-2 lead after the 4th. Then in the 6th the Omaha Terriers were able to tie the game up 3-3. The Warriors threatened to score several times after that but weren't able to put anything on the board until the Howard blast to end the game. Gorzelanny got the start today and pitched a pretty good game but it was another game where the starter gets a no decision. The Warriors needed this win to bounce back from a tough loss on July 2nd. The warriors are now 2-1 in the month of July as they look to have a good run before the All-Star break.

Key Players
Howard- 2-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Greene- 2-4, 2 RBI

Key Pitchers
Gorzelanny- 5 2/3 IP, 10 H, 3 SO, 3 ER
Frank O.- 4 1/3 IP, 1 H, 4 SO, 0 ER
Seanez- 1 IP, 2 H, 1 SO WIN(3-2)

Doctors have announced that Ryan Braun broke his collarbone while colliding into a fence in the Omaha game on July 3rd, 2009. He will be out for 30 days. LF Quincy Portis will take his spot in the line-up. Braun is batting .298 in 81 games this season with 34 home runs, this is a big blow to the struggling Warriors offense.

The Warriors were able to fight off a late rally by the Terriers to beat Omaha 5-4. The heroes of the day were Deafface and Greene, who both went deep today. Greene hit his 20th on the year and Deafface hit his 12th. Durvisuski got the start today and the win, his 7th on the year while rocket came in for a pressure save to get his 23rd on the year. Ryan Howard had a great day at the plate also, he went 2-4. The lack of Braun in the line-up today was obvious as his repalcement Quincy Portis went 0-4 with a strikeout.

Key Players
Deafface- 3-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 Runs scored
Howard- 2-4, 1 RBI
Greene- 2-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI

Pitchers
Durvisuski- 6 IP, 7 H, 3 SO, 2 ER
Sain- 2 IP, 4 H, 0 SO, 2 ER
Rocket- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER

The Warriors offense was shut out today, they were held to just 2 hits, but one of those hits was a home run by Ryan Howard, but it wouldn't mean much as the Warriors would go on to lose this game 3-1. Litsch got the start today but got the loss with little run support.

Key Players
Howard- 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI

Pitchers
Litsch- 5 1/3 IP, 7 H, 8 SO, 2 Runs(1 earned) Loss(8-5)
Condrey- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 SO, 1 ER
I.Riley- 0 2/3 IP, 0 H, 1 SO

It was a great game today at local ballpark as the Warriors were able to edge out the San Jose Hornets with a late rally in the bottom of the 8th to win 4-2. Steve Screws got the usual no decision in another great start. He went 6 1/3 IP while giving up only 1 ER in the first inning on a ball that should have been caught by Gurch. Quincy Portis played a huge part in todays game even though he didn't get a hit. He came up to bat with 1 out in the bottom of the 8th with bases loaded while the Warriors were down 2-1. He hit a powerful flyball that sent the right fielder back to the wall, and drove in Carlos Ruiz to make the game 2-2. Then Eckstein drove in another run to give the Warriors the lead. Rick Ankiel extended his hitting streak to 13 today, as he went 2-4 and drove in two runs. The Scranton Times caught up with Steve Screws after the game and was asked to give his thoughts on his lack of run support. "I'd be lying to you if I said that it didn't make me a little upset, I go out there each and every start and give it my all and it just seems like everything goes against me, I'm not mad at my teammates i'm just mad at my rotten luck, they hit the ball hard everytime i get the start, things jsut don't go my way it seems." Condrey came in after Screws and got his 4th win on the year in 1 and 2/3 innings pitched. The Warriors now have a 3 game win streak going.

Key Batters
Ruiz- 2-3, 1 Run scored
Howard- 1-4, 1 Run scored
Q.Portis- 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 SF
Ankiel- 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Eckstein- 14, 1 RBI

Pitchers
S.Screws- 6 1/3 IP, 6 H, 10 SO, 1 ER
Condrey- 1 2/3 IP, 1 H, 1 SO, 1 ER WIN(4-0)
Rocket- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 SO, 0 ER (SV)(27)

Ian Riley will get his first start of his career today against the San Jose Hornets, he will be facing tough left handed pitcher Ted Lilly. Hopefully he will do well as he looks to be a Warrior for a really long time.

Rookie pitcher Ian Riley got his first career start on a rainy day at local ballpark, he pitched 5 solid innings but got the no decision in a 3-2 Warriors win. Deafface hit a early homerun to put the Warriors up 1-0. San Jose answered back quickly with a run of their own to make it 1-1. Ankiel would extend his hitting streak to 16 games with a solo home run in the 7th to tied it 2-2. Eckstein would follow that in the 8th inning to knock in the winning run with a hit in the 8th. Otto Rocket came in and got a 2 hit save in the 9th. Patrick Star earned his team high 9th win on the season today. Ian Riley seemed pleased with his start saying "that was just waht i expected to happen my first time out there". He threw 51 pitches, 23 Fastballs, 10 Curveballs, 10 Spitballs, 3 H-shuttos, 2 Palmballs, 1 Knucklecurveball, along with 2 mistake pitches.

Easily the most exciting game of the year as the Warriors were down to their last strike in the bottom of the 10th with a runner on second, down by one run, when Ryan Howard got a fastball up in the zone and he just sent it packing! a walk off 2 run homer to opposite field sent the crowd of almost 10,000 home happy. The final score was 4-3. Durvisuski got the start today and went 6 strong innings, The Scranton Times caught up with Howard after the game, and he said "That was the most intense hit of my life, I didn't even really see the ball out of his hands very well, I just went for it and i got it, i'm pumped". Frank Ocean got his 2nd win of the year today. Gurch broke out of his slump and finally hit his 4th home run of the year, he was stuck on 3 for what seemed like 2 months.

Key Batters
Ruiz- 4-5, 1 Run Scored
Gurch- 2-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Howard- 1-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Q.Portis- 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI

Pitchers
Durvisuski- 6 IP, 3 H, 9 SO, 2 ER
Condrey- 1 IP, 0 H, 3 SO
Sain- 2 IP, 0 H, 3 SO, 0 ER
Frank O.- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 SO, 1 ER WIN(2-3)
