I get Jaw to show up like the third or fourth day right after you start just about every time I have made a fielder. Which is why this version is too easy. If he doesn't show up in Jan, he will in Jun. I never even reload for him. It seems to me that this Re is very easy to get.

This version certainly seems "easier" overall, but so far it seems very difficult to get control to 255 (along with stam, all abilities, max speed, etc). It also seems difficult to impossible to create an "all A" character.

I just remember that the gambling ring was so impossible to get early in the game in 07'. I got lucky with Sifu to acquire it early AND a genius on the same character. (VERY DIFFICULT) In this game however, the ring is practically given to you at the beginning (if you reload). In 07' you had to roll the right character to be able to get the ring early. Some characters you could reload 2 days in a row all day and still not get the gambling ring in one of the first weeks.

There is less time in this game however, but I still think it's very possible to make an all A' pitcher/fielder. And if we could get some more info on the abilities, I would love to try!

One important thing to note is most people will get one (or more) Legends of Baseball. At least one book is given by Sittch's ending. This means don't spend points/GR rolls on getting both abilities give by the book.

If you're a Pitcher, get only one of the abilities:
* Fastball Life
* Spin

If you're a fielder, choose one:
* Contact Hitter
* Power Hitter

This will allow you to maximize points. Two of my characters ended up selling the book since he had both abilities and can't use it.

Repeat:

If you find anyway to raise mentality 10 points or more per turn, or ctrl 2+, please share!

When your ctrl is 200+, you can literarly only go up 1 ctrl per turn. This is the biggest barrier for pitching stats atm, until somebody posts a maxed ctrl player.

I can't see how it's possible to get 255 ctrl unless you get SUPER lucky with Dr. Goodjob multiple times.

Well, I'm inexperienced with MLB 08, but I know that I went to the streets and listened to a CD that I liked and that netted me 11 pts in mentality for a SS I was making, but this was near the very beginning. Maybe this helps?

Would you rather see a maxed pitcher with a lot of pitches, or a mediocre (probably still great) pitcher with a lot of hitting abilities?

I want to attempt a max character but curious about what everyone would use the most.

Not sure on how good I will be able to do yet, so I'm kind of leaning toward a max pitcher since this will be a little easier and it will be my first attempt.

My suggestion would be to start towards 'maxxing' a pitcher. Based on my experience of the past week you're not going to find a Step-By-Step playbook on how to accomplish high stats. Your better off playing through, and possibly S/L, and getting an idea of the flow of the game.

Questions I find myself asking:
Is it better to save for 3 actions and waste vitality in week 4?
Will I always spend a week heading to the Hot Dog Shop to recuperate?

Example:
After some suggestions from this wonderful website, I went and bought Carryover Chocolate x 3 and some energy drinks. Of course Carryover Chocolate lasts long enough that I should've spent initial money on more Energy Drinks.

Anyway, long story short, some things in the game become better understood playing through. Even on my 4th character I still managed a 255 power, Max Traj. Now to up it a little bit on the next run through!

You know, looking at the possible stats, I can see two things:

1. Pitchers are infintely harder to max
2. Pitchers cannot be maxed, especially not 105 speed, 255 control, 255 stam. No way you can get that many points with the possible exception of getting 5+ successful Dr. Goodjobs.

I want to make a pitcher next for MyLife mode and I'm guessing once I get into that the hardest things to improve would be Control/Stamina. I never *maxed* out a pitcher in 07 but I game pretty close. If I get get an A/A or B/A or B/B starter with a few nasty pitches who throws 105. I'll be happy.

You should see what some have done on the 2008 PW exchange. That should give you an idea on the potential.

So I couldn't find a way to raise control that wasn't horribly tedious. I made my first pitcher though:

105 mph
160 control (B)
200 stamina (A)

Level 7 Slider, Sinker, Knucklecurve, Change-Up
Level 3 2-Seam, Hard Shuuto

Every ability I'd want except intimidator, gyroball and lucky. Including some fielder skills (gold glove, etc.)

How are you people making such good first characters? I took over a year to get to where I am and I still don't have players that good.
