Sacramento Slayers 2 - Indianapolis Captains 4

SUMMARY: Things aren't looking so great all of a sudden for the Slayers, as this is their third loss in the last 4 games. In the bottom of the 5th, left fielder Creak drove in the first run with a fielder's choice. Mars, the next batter, hit a deep fly ball that would have been a home run, but Jeff Francoeur made a leaping catch that resulted in just a sac fly. In the top of the 6th, Ben Zobrist gave the Slayers their first run with a solo shot off reliever Gilgamesh Star. In the bottom of that same inning, CF Jonathan Diamond and 1B Terry Cooper hit back-to-back shots off Anibal Sanchez, the second of which knocked him out of the game. The Captains bullpen would maintain the lead, and closer Zero Gibson earned his 5th save of the season. The Slayers offense needs to have a better showing tomorrow, that's for sure. Mark Prior did well in his season debut.

The Slayers are still waiting for the response from a trade they made to an anonymous NL Central team. If that team accepts, it'll help bolster the Slayers offense and clear roster space for the inaugural PGL Draft next month.

Pretty much, yes.

I should have the results of the trade after I play this next game.

Sacramento Slayers 6 - Indianapolis Captains 5

SUMMARY: The Slayers have ended their losing streak at 2. The scoring started in the top of the first with an Adam Lind single into center field, scoring Jose Bautista. Captains 1B Terry Cooper answered right back in the bottom half with a towering home run into right field to tie the game at 1. Both Captains SP Scott Pithecus and Slayers SP Shaun Marcum would cruise along, with only 1 run scoring until the top of the 6th, when center fielder Adam Jones hit a 2-run bomb to center field, opening the lead to 4-1. Jose Bautista drove in 2 valuable insurance runs in the top of the 7th with his league-leading 17th homer of the season. Shaun Marcum would lose a bit of steam in the bottom of the 7th, when the Captains scored 3 runs in the inning thanks to a homer by Captains RF Rugged Morgan. The Captains scored 1 more off Jesse Carlson in the 8th, but that would not be enough, as Brian Wilson pitched a 1-2-3 9th inning en route to his PGL-leading 11th save.

The Sittch I faced today was actually the GoldenApples' version and not the GalaxySharks one. My bad.

Sacramento Slayers 5 - Indianapolis Captains 3

SUMMARY: The Slayers pull off a nice comeback victory to win the series against the Captains. The game was scoreless until the 4th inning, when Mike Morse doubled to left center, scoring Jose Bautista from first base. Then, in the bottom of the 5th, Creak doubled to right field, scoring Sittch, who just barely beat Jeff Francoeur's throw from right field. In the bottom of the 6th, catcher Patrick Gainer gave the Captains the lead with an opposite field 2-run blast. However, in the top of the 7th, Adam Jones, who has done amazing in this series, tied the game up with a 2-run dinger of his own. In the top of the 8th, with the score tied 3-3, runners on 2nd and 3rd, and 2 outs, Jeff Francoeur singled to right field off Gilgamesh Star, scoring both runners and giving the Slayers a 5-3 lead, which, as you can see, they kept 'til the end of the game. Mark Prior pitched 2 scoreless innings earning his first win of 2108, and Brian Wilson pitched another 1-2-3 inning for his 12th save of the season.

The trade that the Slayers offered after the previous one was declined, was also declined. GM Preston Greene admitted it was a longshot because that team is also in the NL West. Greene is still looking to get a deal done.

UPCOMING SERIES

Sacramento Slayers (23-12) vs Durham Dinosaurs (13-23)

The Slayers look to redeem themselves against the Dinosaurs after a poor first showing against them. This time, the Slayers will have the advantage of playing at home. Let's take a look at the key Dinosaurs players in this series:

Lon Gaspar, CF, #47, L/R, 31 years old
4 TRJ, C CON, A PWR, C RUN SPD, C ARM STR, A FLD, C E RES
GM REPORT: Even in the second go-around against the Dinosaurs, Gaspar is still a player to watch. And rightfully so, as he has been the best outfielder in the game so far this season.

Gannon Gregory, 3B, #18, R/R, 29 years old
3 TRJ, D CON, B PWR, E RUN SPD, A ARM STR, C FLD, C E RES
GM REPORT: Gregory teed off Slayers pitching in the first series, and he is starting to get on a roll in the month of May. He'll definitely be a force at the plate, for sure.

Giancarlo Romero, P, #91, R/R, 26 years old
99 TOP SPD, D CTRL, D STAM, Lv. 2 2SFB, Lv. 6 H-SLD, Lv. 6 DCB, Lv. 5 SPLT
GM REPORT: Romero shut down the Slayers as a long reliever in the bullpen. The Dinosaurs are trying to ease him into a starting role, and he will most likely be starting Game 2 of the series. As mentioned in the last preview of these guys, Romero has electric stuff. The key will be running up his pitch count, which the aggressive Slayers offense needs to learn to do.

PROJECTED PITCHING MATCHUP:

Game 1: B. Morrow (0-1, 4.88) vs. B. Patel (2-2, 4.78)
Game 2: J. Jurrjens (3-1, 3.19) vs. G. Romero (1-0, 2.28)
Game 3: A. Sanchez (2-3, 3.86) vs. Brad Lawrence (89 TOP SPD, E CTRL, A STAM, Lv 4 SLD; 2-3, 7.75)

Rumors around the PGL are that the Slayers and an AL East team are in trade talks, and Greene has even made a trade offer. Let's see if this works out better than the previous offers Greene made.

Sacramento Slayers 3 - Durham Dinosaurs 7

SUMMARY: Today's game was a disappointment, sadly. The Slayers first took the lead in the bottom of the third with an Adam Lind single. In the top of the 5th, Brandon Morrow gave up 2 runs via a Gaspar double and a sac fly by left fielder Harold Glass. That was Morrow's last inning, so he still remains winless for the season. The Slayers took back the lead in the bottom of the 7th with an RBI double by Martin Prado and an RBI single by Ben Zobrist. It would be short-lived, however, as Gannon Gregory (grr) tied the game up with a solo shot in the top of the 8th, his 12th of the year. Things blew up in the top of the 9th, as an error by Jose Bautista led to a 4-run inning capped off by a bases-loaded triple by Lon Gaspar. The result was a 7-3 deficit which they could not climb out of.

SLAYERS' LINEUP

S. Keller - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 0 ER, 2.87

The Dinosaurs seem to have the Slayers' number so far this season.

League Blowouts
None.

It's the 3 killer G's. Gaspar and Gregory especially. I think half of Gregory's HRs are against the Slayers (at least it feels like it), and Gaspar is probably the best outfielder in the game. I am surprised I struck him out 3 times last game, however.

Nope.

I haven't made any updates recently because I usually don't update much on the weekends, and I have driving school until Thursday. I'm going to try my best to finish the Dinosaurs series on Thursday and finish up the rest of the homestand on Friday.

Sacramento Slayers 3 - Durham Dinosaurs 4

SUMMARY: Yet another loss to the Dinosaurs, who have just had the Slayers' number this season. The Slayers took the lead in the bottom of the second with a sac fly by Adam Jones, scoring Mike Morse. Jair Jurrjens was cruising until the top of the fifth, when Gannon Gregory tripled into left field and first baseman Willie Bowen subsequently brought him home with a 2-run shot to right field. The Dinosaurs took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 8th, but back-to-back doubles by Kurt Suzuki and pinch hitter Kevin Millar tied the game up at 2. After a single by Martin Prado moved Millar over to 3rd, Jose Bautista drove him in with a sac fly to give the Slayers a 3-2 lead heading into the top of the 9th. However, the lead wouldn't hold up for very long, as Lon Gaspar crushed closer Brian WIlson's first offering over the center field wall to tie the game up at 3. The game would remain tied until the top of the 11th, when left fielder Harold Glass hit a towering shot into left-center field off of Mark Prior to give the DInosaurs the lead. Shaun Keller would pitch a 1-2-3 bottom of the 11th for his 3rd save of the season.
