The vertical slider is one of two pitches that I actually strike out against when it's used by an AI pitcher. The other being the knuckleball. A good vertical slider just seems unhittable in this game, it starts out looking like a straight fastball and it can just drop over half the length of the strike zone at the last possible moment, and if the vertical movement isn't enough, it breaks to the side as well, all very suddenly.

Exactly (except I also strike out on fastballs, which I can't hit very well :( )

The two guys with SPLTs are level 2s, which aren't really effective, so...

I appreciate the insights on the verticle slider. I think only 1 pitcher (on the Indians) throws it, so I'm not experienced. I like to add pitches in the offseason, and I generally add a splitter or a hdsnk cause I like the added speed. According to the wiki page, the vsld goes at the same speed as the hsk, so why not use that?

While I'm on that topic, I am thinking of trying a shu pitch with Joba Chamberlain, to get a fast, horizontal, reverse slider type. The SIFB just doesn't do much until you get to level 4. Thoughts?

Do you play with the pitch speed on extra fast, or do yu have it set to not know what pitch is getting thrown? As a forum "regular," I assume you play a lot, and that you'd do fine on fastballs - at least if you're not trying for HRs. For me, the easiest for hitting HRs is a cutter or change at lvl 1, but if I'm just trying to get a base hit (as I always do with 2 strikes), then a lvl 4 knuckler, Mariano Rivera cutter, the level 5 curve from the Francisco Rodriguez, and lvl 4 splitter or slv are the only ones that've given me trouble. Never batted against a shu, vert slider, fosh, & screwball. That being said, I do have it set so I know what pitch is being thrown

Pitch speed is normal, I do have it set so I don't know what pitch. I'm also wondering why no one seems to be able to score...

Pirates 2
Marlins 5

W: J.Peralta (1-0) L: Correia (1-1)

The Marlins won their second straight as Scott Baker came within one out of a complete game shutout. There was only one scoring play in the game until the ninth. In the third, Dan Johnson came up with Hanley Ramirez and Josh Hamilton on base. He hit a deep fly ball and ended up at third with a two-run triple off Jason Vargas. However, in the ninth inning, Mike Fontenot hit an RBI single to center off closer Joba Chamberlain, followed by an RBI single by Laynce Nix to tie the game at 2. Chamberlain struck out the next batter and we headed to extras. Neither team could capitalize until the 14th. With Kevin Correia on the mound, Jose Reyes and Ramirez hit singles to bring Hamilton up with no outs. Correia threw a pitch down the middle and Hamilton crushed it to center field for a walk-off, 3-run homer.

What is the opponents batting at? I have it at allstar, i think, and theres mo way I can consistently hold an opponent to less than 4 runs.

Expert has you control all base runners, right?

With runners at 1st and 3rd, how easy is it to try to steal 2nd while the guy at 3rd stays put?

What about having 1runner tag up while another goes 1/2way and then returns to the base?

I never even try to do either of those. Both runners advance. Hit and run a lot.
