Well I wouldn't count on getting more walks anytime soon.

July 16th, 2011

Today marks my return from injury.

I got the cast taken off earlier in the week, and spent a couple days in rehab. Today, I was finally declared "good to go" and headed to the stadium to watch my last game from the disabled list. Dancy told me he was glad to have me back and said I would immediately be placed in the starting lineup again. I was glad to hear that; I had been worried Victor Diaz would take my spot. Lucky for me, he only batted .248 in my absence.

I should also mention the the first half of the season ended in late June, and we placed second in the North division, which the Mudcats won, clinching a playoff spot. We now need to win the second half to earn the right to face them in the playoffs.

I can't wait to get back on that field.

Season Stats
25-99, .253, 2 HR, 4 2B, 2 3B, 12 RBI, 12 R, 6 BB, 15 K, .290 OBP, .394 SLG

Standings
1. Carolina Mudcats - 15-8
2. Chattanooga Lookouts - 12-11
3. Jackson Generals - 11-12
4. Tennessee Smokies - 10-13
5. Huntsville Stars - 8-15

Week of July 17th, 2011

My first game back got off to a mediocre start. I lined out to short in my first at-bat, then struck out and walked in the next two. My fourth at-bat was an RBI ground out that was almost a double play. I got one more chance in the 9th inning, and I hit a fly ball deep to left field that kicked off the base of the wall. I hustled around the bases and slid into third (this time without injuring myself) with a triple. I'm not really sure how I keep getting these triples, since I'm not particularly fast, but I'll gladly take them.

Our Friday game against the Carolina Mudcats was a pretty exciting one. Down 3-0, heading into the bottom of the ninth, things were looking bleak. After a pinch hitter grounded out to start the inning, Victor Diaz walked and Andres Samuels did the same. Catcher Todd Pina came up to the plate and ripped a fly ball to center that bounced off the wall, allowing him to pull in with a two-run triple. I came up to the plate next and worked a 5-pitch walk, followed by yet another walk, loading the bases and putting me, the game winning run, on second. Third Baseman Henry Veras, who was 0 for 3 on the day, took a 2-2 pitch into the gap in left-center, and Pina and I scored easily. We mobbed Henry at second and I later pied him. All in all, it was one of the most fun nights I've had in a while.

On Saturday I grounded out in a pinch hit appearance.

Week's Stats
5-20, .250, 0 HR, 0 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB, 3 K

Season Stats
30-119, .252, 2 HR, 4 2B, 3 3B, 14 RBI, 15 R, 8 BB, 18 K, .292 OBP, .387 SLG

Standings
1. Carolina Mudcats - 19-10
2. Chattanooga Lookouts - 17-12
3. Tennessee Smokies - 13-16
4. Jackson Generals - 12-17
5. Huntsville Stars - 10-19

I won't be able to update this for about a week (TV PS3 is hooked up to isn't working), but I should get a couple more Melonheads updates in during that time. I'm pretty sure that log is more popular anyway.

I disagree, I'd much rather read this. But maybe that's because I don't have a player in the other one

I like this almost as much as the Melonheads. Probably because I do have a player in that one.

Week of July 24th, 2011

This week was a great one for me. I started out by going 2-4 in both the Carolina series finale and our series opener in Montgomery. On Wednesday, I saw a knuckleballer for the first time ever, and I struck out twice. I almost struck out a third time, but with the count at 0-2 I slapped a grounder up the middle for a base hit.

On Thursday, our game went into extras, and we eventually won 4-3. I went 2 for 6 and picked up an RBI as well.

On Friday, I sat out, and I heard around the clubhouse that we had traded Reed Johnson to the Angels. I checked things out online later, and found out the GM had just finalized a deal for a couple young center fielders. Some 19 year old named Mike Trout, and Peter Bourjos. I shouldn't have to worry about competing with them, if only because they're miles ahead of me in terms of development, but I thought it seemed like a pretty good deal, given Reed Johnson's age (34) and that we still have Marlon Byrd to handle the starting duties in center for now.

Finally, in Saturday's game 5 against the Biscuits, I went 3 for 5 with a double and a run scored, extending my hit streak to a modest 5 games and bringing my average up over .280 for the first time since who knows when. Next week, we play the Birmingham Barons and the Huntsville Stars. I started thinking how I wished we played farther out west so my family could watch, as they still live in my hometown near San Francisco. Or if I made more money I could afford to fly them out for a game...

Week's Stats
10-23, .435, 0 HR, 2 2B, 0 3B, 3 RBI, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Season Stats
40-142, .282, 2 HR, 6 2B, 3 3B, 17 RBI, 17 R, 8 BB, 21 K, .314 OBP, .408 SLG

Standings
1. Carolina Mudcats - 23-12
2. Chattanooga Lookouts - 21-14
3. Tennessee Smokies - 17-18
4. Jackson Generals - 15-20
5. Huntsville Stars - 11-24
