Kurihara Saves Us!

Image – Masato Kurihara

Chiba Marine Stadium, Chiba City – A particularly poor performance by the once-ace, Tsukiya Yamato proved to be nearly costly, as the Knights barely squeaked by on this one. Thanks to a clutch homerun by Masato Kurihara, his second of the game, and 22nd of this young season. Think about that for a second, we’re not even out of April yet, and Kurihara’s already got more homeruns than the majority of players will hit all season. Ridiculous!

Anyways, this game was a jumpy one, where the Knights and Marines would constantly switch in the runs category. It wasn’t a great game for either side pitching wise, but the bats were very apparent, especially for Yano of the Marines, who went 3-4 with 2 homeruns and 4 RBI, and Kurihara, who went 4-5 with 2 homeruns of his own, and 4 RBI as well.

Kurihara Hits 150th As Knights Squeak By Lions

Image – Kurihara hits number 150 in the Knights’ victory

Seibu Dome, Tokorozawa, Saitama – The Knights won a good one yesterday in the Seibu Dome, beating out the second place Lions by a score of 3-1. This win also entailed young Kurihara’s 150th career homerun! Bare in mind folks, this is only his third professional season, and he’s only 21 years old! Incredible!

Anyways, this was a pitcher’s duel the whole way through, with both offenses being quiet, save for homeruns from Kanazawa, Kurihara, and Nakamura of the Lions.

It got tense in the bottom of the 8th though, Shima had let two runners on, Kataoka and Kuriyama, on a double and single respectively, the bullpen was called, and Fujii took the mound. He threw two pitches out of the zone, a curveball and fastball, but the next one was a sinker inside, Nakajima swung at it and grounded out to his counterpart, Kura, at short to end the inning! At that point too the Knights only had a one run lead. Fujii said after the game, after recording his first save of the season “I was told that I would be working the 9th, since Makida is under the weather. When the called on me to come in in the 8th, I was surprised, I’m just glad I stopped the Lions from scoring.”

Fujii is currently sporting a 0.93 ERA for the season.

Yikes

Image
Image – Hirabayashi and Shimazaki

Yamanote Stadium, Sakai, Osaka – Yikes says it all. This game was abysmal; the Knights got absolutely destroyed in last night’s game versus their rivals, the Samurais. In a terrible loss, the Knights were outscored 11-2, the most runs they’ve given up this year, and with this loss their lead in the Pacific League fell to only one and half games. But, the silver lining, if any, was that they weren’t shutout! Thanks to a nice double by Oda and a triple by Shimozono immediately after him. Manager Kensou Mori spoke after the game, and said “Well, we really did poorly, eh? No one did anything well today, and it had to be against my and Jack’s brother’s team. Well, we’re really going to have to improve our game soon, if we want to keep first place.”

Well said, Mori.

Knights Rebound and Beat Samurais!

Image
Image – Kurihara and Fujita

Yamanote Stadium, Sakai, Osaka – After last night, everyone here at the office was expecting another blowout. But, the Knights took control, and with a fantastic pitching performance by the struggling Fujita, the Knights took the game by a score of 4-0! All of the scoring on the Knights side was done via the longball, a 2-run homerun by Kurihara in the 4th, a homerun right after him by Oda, and then another solo shot over the right field wall in the 8th by Ushida.

“Thankfully, we won this one, and we’ve got to be thankful to the masterful performance by Fujita, since he really held his own today.” Manager Kensou Mori said after the game, Fujita also added “My fastball and slider were really working for me today, something that hasn’t been the case all of this season. Hopefully I’ll be able to get the magic of my rookie season back.”

The Knights will be playing the BayStars tonight, who are doing terribly this season, in fact, their schedule coming up should be good to get their record up.

I sat in my office, glaring at my computer, with nothing really going on, and I thought to myself, "Hm... Preston hasn't been here in a long while."
Just then, Mark, his assistant, said "Uh... Sir, well, um, you know, I don't think that Preston has been here for a while, so, do you think you should hire someone else?"
"Mark, I was thinking of the same thing."
"Uh... Okay, excellent."
"I'll get to it right away."

So, I got to it, and looked into candidates.

So, does anyone want to take Preston's (PPJ) job as the team's Scout?
