"You've got until tomorrow afternoon," said my dad. "Until what?" I asked. "You need to decide which high school you're going to." "Okay, remind me again what my options are?"

"Alright, I think I want to stay here and go to Kalamazoo," I said. "I think you're crazy, but okay," he said as he went to fill out some paperwork. Considering the first day of school was Monday, August 18th, and it was Thursday, August 14th, I figured he needed to fill the paperwork out soon. "What elective do you want to take, choir, drama, art, or band?" he yelled from another room. "Choir!" I yelled back. "Okay," he said. I went into the living room and saw him writing away. "You'll have to play basketball for a little while, it's a short schedule though." "Okay," I replied.

The next few days I mainly relaxed while practicing a little bit. I rested and waited for my first day of school on Monday.

I woke up the next morning and changed into a T-shirt and shorts because the forecast said it would be around 80° today. I went into the kitchen and made myself a bowl of cereal and a glass of water. I ate my breakfast and brushed my teeth and such by 7 am. Since I didn't have to leave for school until 7:15, I played games on my iPhone for a while until it was time to go. I got to school and a kid came up to me. "You're new here, right?" he asked. "Yeah," I told him. "I'm Matt Crawford. I'm a freshman." Another kid walked up. "That's my brother Dan, he's a freshman too." "Does he talk?" "Yeah, but not much. He's more soft-spoken. Hey, do you play baseball?" "I guess so. I mean, I'm not the football type, and my dad played baseball." "He did?" "Yeah. I'm Ryan Techer, Jr., by the way." "Ryan...Techer?" "Yeah. 403 home runs, .274 batting average..." "Wow. Well, school is starting now. You should go to the office to get your schedule and stuff." I went off to find the office. I went into a building marked "Offices" and walked into the first door I saw, labeled "Principal". I asked the principal what I needed to do and he said my schedule was printing out. It finished and he handed it to me. "Your first class is algebra with Mrs. Williams, in room 216." I thanked him and went off to room 216. I found the room and walked in. "Sorry, I was getting my schedule," I said. Mrs. Williams said, "That's okay. Are you Trent Mitchell?" I shook my head no. "Anthony?" No again. "Ryan?" "Yes ma'am, that would be me." "Okay. We are just reviewing basic concepts for the next two weeks to get you acclimated." "Oh, okay." I sat down and listened to her explain algebra to the four of us- Matt, Dan, Connor James, and I. About 10 minutes later 5 others showed up- 2 boys, who I figured were Trent and Anthony, and 3 girls, who introduced themselves as Melody, Stephany, and Sarah. When class let out 45 minutes later I looked at my schedule and saw that I had Choir in 10 minutes downstairs. After that I had Spanish, then lunch, Biology, English, and World History. After History I went down to the gym as the coaches were to talk about their sport and get us acclimated to each sport. There were only 11 boys for baseball (3 of them said they were 8th graders) including myself. The coach said that our clubhouse was by the History wing. Good, that'll give me time, I thought. I went over to the clubhouse and went in the restroom. I didn't change because I hadn't brought anything. Then I went out to the field. Coach was already standing there waiting for us. He looked at me. "Who are you, and why don't you have anything?" "I'm Ryan Techer, Jr., sir. I, um, forgot..." "That's okay. Wednesday you better have your stuff." Once we all got there I noticed Matt and Dan were both there with Trent, Anthony, and Connor. The others introduced themselves as Mike Jones, Ryan Robinson, Tim Cormier, Roy, Evan James, and Joe Klingensmith. We got to practicing and Coach told anyone who could pitch to go to the mound. Matt, Evan, Ryan, and I went to the mound. Dan stood by us and told Coach he could catch. Coach told Matt to throw first. He threw an array of cutters and curves. He told Evan to go next, and he threw junk too, but then Ryan started coming close to 90 mph. Then it was my turn.

CHOOSE WISELY!

A. Impress coach with your speed (79mph)
B. Throw a bunch of breaking balls (level 1 CB)
C. Mix it up
D. Run home
E. Work on a new pitch (you choose)

Money: $300
Vitality: 90/100 (-10)

Your Eval:
Coach - 0
Team* - 0

Matt's Eval:
Coach - 3 (+3)
Team* - 0

*Team Eval measures how the team thinks of you. It affects friends, captaincy, and other things.

I decided to mix in both of my pitches, a fastball and a curve. My first five pitches were all fastballs. "Got anything good to show us?" asked Coach. I gave him a look and threw a few curves. I then mixed in both pitches for him. "Everyone made the team, but you're only playing because you're not an 8th grader," Coach told me. I decided I needed some intense practice.

CHOOSE WISELY!

A. Top Speed (79 mph)
B. Control (E 116)
C. Stamina (E 41)
D. Breaking Balls
   1. Current (CB 1)
  2. Learn new
E. Take steroids

I thought I should work on my fastball, it was only a mid-70s pitch right now. I went through three hours of intense training before going inside for dinner. I ate and then remembered I needed my baseball gear for tomorrow.

C. Don't bring gear, still go to practice
D. Skip school entirely
E. Call your Math teacher

I decided that I should just go to practice as usual. I went into my room and grabbed my glove and bat. I couldn't find my baseball pants so I asked my dad. He went into my closet and pulled out a pair. I thanked him and put them in my bag. I also packed the "Kalamazoo Baseball" T-shirt and hat I had gotten yesterday. I put on a T-shirt and shorts and ate breakfast. I brushed my teeth and my dad drove me to school. The day was normal until History. Our teacher, Mr. Jefferson, gave us a test to see what we knew. He said he wasn't taking a grade, but I only got 24 out of the 53 questions right.
The bell rang and I headed down to the clubhouse. I went in the restroom and changed. Then I went out to the field. The coach told us there would be a competition between Matt and I for team captain. He said we had 1 week to place our votes. Dan immediately sided with his brother and the race was on. The coach then said we would also be competing for a rotation spot. He told everyone else to stretch and go practice but he called Matt, Dan, and I back. We were told that the next week we would compete for the starting role. On Monday we would try to amaze him with top speed, Tuesday control, Wednesday stamina, and Thursday and Friday we would face live hitters.
He then sent us to practice as a group of 3.

CHOOSE WISELY!
A. Practice top speed (83mph)
B. Control (E 116)
C. Stamina (E 41)
D. Breaking Ball
    1. Improve CB (1)
   2. Learn new
E. Tell coach Matt can be captain and starting pitcher and run away

-------------------------------------

Money: $300
Vitality: 54/100 (-8)

Your Eval:
Coach - 0
Team* - 0

Matt's Eval:
Coach - 3
Team* - 2

If I hadn't mentioned it before, your Vitality increases by 60 every night (barring outside factors)

Sorry but these 1-player games are only for one person to respond; in this case dishnetkid.

If you'd like I may be able to do one for you too.
