Finally finished this guy up. Wes Ferrell is often considered the best hitting pitcher in MLB history (that stayed a pitcher his whole career). In 1933 Ferrell played 13 games in LF while "resting" a sore arm, but other than that he was only a pitcher or a pinch hitter. My model for creating him was his 1935 season, when he finished second in the MVP voting. On the pitching side he led the AL in wins (going 25-14), complete games (31), and innings pitched (322.1), and on the hitting side he batted .347 (.349 led the league) with 7 homers and 32 RBI in 150 at bats. Ferrell is the career home runs leader for pitchers (38), and also holds the record for most homers in a season by a pitcher (9). He is not in the Hall of Fame (his brother is though - Rick, a catcher who played at the same time as Wes), though he's one of those marginal HoF candidates that you can debate either way. The knock on him is that he only won 193 games, though supporters argue that he pitched his entire career for mediocre to bad teams, he's the only pitcher in the 20th century to win 20+ games 4 years in a row, and his adjusted stats compare more than favorably with other players from his era that were already inducted. Was previously discussing the "challenges" of making this player here: http://www.mlbppworld.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=417 The original pitch is a PALM where I did 7-8 "better slow ball" modifications and then 2 "better breaking ball" modifications. In the Superstars game his 4SFB was coming in at 92 early in the game, with the ORIG at 69, the regular CHG at 72, and the DCB at 73-74. ![]() |

I bet it took a lot of hard work and a long time for Wyl to create Wes Ferrell and I think he should go to the Hall of Fame and he actually hit 37 home runs as a pitcher because he hit one as a pinch hitter. |
