When playing the games yourself, does anyone else find that walks are few and far between? The MLB average walk rate is something like 3 or 4 per 9 innings (per side), but it seems like I'm lucky to get one. I guess I'm something of a free swinger as well, but whenever the computer does get to 3 balls, they almost never throw another pitch out of the zone. Has this been different for anyone else?

The AI is a bit tweaked like that.

Besides, if we were capable of reliably fouling off pitches, you'd draw many more walks.

but I think they make up for that by making hit-by-pitches quite easy to get.

How often do you get hurt (and have to leave the game) by HBPs?

side semi-related rant: I now regret getting the head first slide ability for a couple of my success mode dudes, because it has taken them out of a few games, and they insist on doing it at first base where it may be counterproductive.

Oh, I always get out of the way of the HBP's in season mode. I'd rather jack home-runs with lock-on 5

But I always do it in success mode because the hitters (other than the top 4/5) absolutely suck.

I've only gotten hurt once out of all the times I got HBP. I'm mostly a free swinger when I'm on a roll and I get overconfident in the abilities of my guys. Otherwise I take almost all of the borderline pitches.

Going back to the "fouling off" issue, I wonder whether any game has ever had an option for a defensive swing as well as a contact swing and big swing. That would be one way to add more realism.

Damn lock-on 5? You almost don't even have to swing to win

I know I pretty doubled half my players' home run totals in one game.

On another note I have been trying all-star with normal batting and no spin on the cursor.

It's a pretty good challenge to get a hit let alone a HR.

Season Mode (along with Exhibition) can be seen as my way of venting anger after Success Mode - with scrap heap hitters and all that stuff, I can't wait to get 10 runs rallies.

lol

That is very true, and believe me I played a few games with best contact just to see what happened. It's sort of fun hitting 450 foot straight away center field homers with F power player.

Too bad there's no way to mix in Best Try with Lock-On 5. That'd be off the hook. Pure timing, no other skills required.

I've played about 5 games in my 1st season thus far, I usually play one game of each 3-4 game series and I've only hit one homer. I play with normal batting vs. expert CPU controls. It seems like you really have to get that whole little circle on the ball to make solid contact with a power swing.

Any of you guys hitting like a homer/game with no lock-on batting? I can get plenty of singles and doubles, but the homers are tough to come by

Yeah I tend to hit one every other game. The trick is to figure out the pitch types the pitcher can send, and you can instinctively tell which pitch he will throw depending on where he puts the cursor. If he's throwing a lot of zone painters (just inside or outside sliders, etc) and suddenly he sends one just high, a good bet is that it's a fastball. Crank it out

My problem is that my controller has a little twitch to it, so I'll have it all lined up and ready to rip the leather off the ball when it will twitch upwards and pound it into the ground straight to the third baseman.
