Post subject:  Updating rosters-team by team for the Wii.

Since there seems to be no plans to release a new PowerPros here in the states (boooo!) I was wondering if anyone would be interested in updating the rosters to match those currently.

How?

Well, anyone who would be interested could pick a team and update the team in terms of created players, moves, increasing stats etc.

For example: If someone picked the Milwuakee Brewers they would have to
1.) Create Ryan Braun and Yovani Gallardo
2.) Put Eric Gagne on the team.
3.) Increase Corey Hart's stats/ratings.
etc.

And then whoever picked that team could list the steps they took to update the team. By posting success mode passwords etc here.

I feel that since updating the rosters to this exent is a huge undertaking for one person, it would be easier if everyone picked a team and updated that team and shared exactly how they did it.

I love this game and just wanna be able to play with the exact teams as the season hype is beginning and as the new season goes on.

Too ambitious? Too ridiculous? Impossible? Let me know what you folks think, cuz maybe I'm just crazy.

Sounds like a good plan.

Just make sure people don't pick their favorite teams - biases might lead to players who are better than in real life. And make sure the success mode guys are the all-A juggernauts.

Also I would say folks should also not try to save/reload for the gambling ring, as this makes players extremely powerful and way off what real-world players would be.

how do you change the team of a player - not using Arrange team?

Or should we just them all arrange teams?

In that case I'll take the Mariners.
I'll be making a Jeff Clement (4,C,A,D,B,C,D) and adding Erik Bedard. I'll check the Yahoo! rosters to fill it out. Whoever does the Orioles, I wouldn't use the Adam Jones posted in the password exchange forum. He's too expensive and too good. No way the real-life is all A's and B's in anything but fielding.

You could edit some of the players that retired into players that aren't in the game, so you wouldn't have to got through success mode as much.

Having the gambling ring may make it easier to make unrealistic players, but it also makes it easier to make players the way you want them. The key is to show some restraint; just because you have the gambling ring doesn't mean you need to use it every turn, but having the ring gives you more freedom and makes it less likely you'll hear "Well, I wanted him to have a B in this category but I only got it to a C". Start with a plan for each category and what abilities you want and when you get there, stop. If you get Ryan Braun exactly how you want him and its only beginning the 3rd year, then great! Cruise on in to the end of Success without upgrading anything else. Of course, special attention will need to be given to saving at each few turns in case you get extra abilities or negatives you don't want. I think it would be good for you guys to vote on how you want a particular player to be before someone starts making them so no one gets upset over results and no one wastes their time.

But my whole point is that it should be very easy to make any real life player EXACTLY how you want them to be with the help of gambling, the process just needs to be governed.

I can do the Mets as well since they don't have any real MLB-ready prospects. Just add Santana and I'm pretty much done, give or take some editing. Fernando Martinez is so far away that he's irrelevant, but if I were to make him is 3 TRJ, B contact, C power, C speed, C arm, B fielding, and D e res realistic? His ceiling is obviously higher with A's, but that's no guarantee and the season mode would be used to get him to his ceiling. I'll just make it so each stat is just one point away from the next grade. The poor e res is because he is an inexperienced fielder.

As for Jeff Clement is that okay?
Carlos Triunfel - 3,B,C,B,B,B,C ?

Or should I just make the players closer to their projections?
Only problem is that it doesn't account for "not panning out and salaries are out of whack.

As for the hardest teams in terms of making prospects - they'd be the Yankees and D-Rays. Both were in Baseball America's top 5 farm teams, but unlike teams like Texas - both have their top guys in the majors.

Try your best making the big three and more (Joba, IPK, Hughes, Longoria, Brignac, Albaladejo, Edwar Ramirez, Ohlendorf, A Jackson, Price, etc. etc.)!

A bunch of vets would have to be edited for both decline and improvement.

Take A-Rod for example - the game has him coming off his worst statistical year where he now just came off one of his best. I had to (sob) trade him away because he's a payroll anchor in addition to batting sub-.250 and barely hitting double-digit home runs (counting stats aren't a problem given that he was batting in the 2-hole) at the season's end. But I did get him the the WS championship!

Just started on Clement. Won't be able to work on him until next weekend - vacation's over :( .

I actually think the A power is too high for him. I'll knock down to a mid-high B.

yea, try not to make rookies too amazing. i think low to mid B ranking would be good.

What about editing, maybe someone could work up a stat sheet/formula that translates stats to grades.

Maybe:
35+ homers = A
30-35 = B
20-30 = C
15-20 = D
10-15 = E
below 10 = F

or something.

Why not just edit the players directly under "My Data" instead of trying to recreate them? I understand needing to create players that don't exist in the game already, which in many cases can be done by editing other scrubs/non-descript AAA players from different rosters. In most cases you shouldn't have to do much Success Mode to update rosters.

I did that but I'm wondering is it exactly the same thing since the game doesn't allow you to change age and contract details. I spent some time last night editing 'Roger Clemens' to 'Joba Chamberlain' on the Yankees via "My Data" but since I can't alter his age, will he end up retiring after one season? Also, my new Joba's salary demands will be similar to Roger and that's what I would want to avoid.

Can anyone provide some insight on this? Is there a way to change the age and contract details using "My Data"?

I don't think so.

Many teams will be adding new prospects to the MLB-teams, so they will need to be created.

Keep in mind that the Rookies will have a much higher salary than wanted because the success mode players are priced purely on their stats.

You can edit the names?

There are plenty of useless scrap-heap players in the game that could be edited if that was the case.
