I guess that trajectory of 2 or 3 is best, 4 being a little too much?

Power hitters should have 3 or 4. If your power hitter has some speed like A-Rod or Chase Utley, 3 is good. Slow fat home run hitter should probably have 4, like David Ortiz and Travis Hafner.

2 is for contact hitters like Ichiro or Jeter.

1 is for pitchers who bunt. I'm not sure, but it might help prevent against pop outs from bunting.

You have to balance trajectory with power. If you've got a 4 trajectory and C or below power, you're going to just hit a lot of routine fly balls for outs. You need at least B level power for a trajectory of 4 to make any sense, and even then I'd personally want to stay at 3 until I had A level power.
