yes, i believe you do. i found it much easier to get VS Lefty from my glove when I struck out a bunch of lefties. and dr. k.

I usually buy my equipment right before the first game of the season - since you cant unlock it any other time anyway. I do whatever the ability I want is, and do that for the world gathering and first tournament game. If I don't get the ability I want, I just restart and buy it again - hopefully with different abilities. Of course MM4 always helps. But buying the glove early, and then returning it later to buy a different one will result in a loss of money.

This isn't a bad strategy really, I will consider it on my next fielder. I take it you study study study till you are level 3, make enough money to purchase the equipment and the rest of the time is strength training to get your PWR up so you can knock a few over the fence before the first game?

yeah, doing the studying at the beginning, until the job command shows up will get me at least to level one. And Annie's homeworks, dates, and mind-training necklace have me at least there. I once got to level 4 very early on because I got three straight professor's homeworks (he assigned when I turned in my first).

The only problem is that the store might not show up when you want it to, which may mess up your timing. I hate it when it shows up in late April because it might not come in May - when the games are. Then, I can't really save if a favorable event happens and go w/the strategy at the same time (if the equipment doesn't have the right ability). I think this works best with pitcher gloves, though. Compared to bats, each glove has a smaller pool of abilities, and is much easier to figure out.

During the Super Star Game I managed to fill out over half of the w/RISP gauge by creating my own RISP situations with IBB. The gauge was already halfway full and it seems I needed 8-10 RISP Ks to unlock it.

wow, in the SS game?!?!

ugh, whenever I play it, I need to keep the bases empty... A guy on base usually signals the floodgates for me.

Either it's a 1-2-3 inning or it's a long inning...

Well it had to be the SSG because otherwise I only have 2 innings to work with ;) Since pitching with RISP seems to drain stamina I put myself on 1B temporarily and had the 1B do the intentional walks.

I had to replay the game a couple of times till the post-game gamble went well but this enabled me to see how the glove experience fills up. Once I slacked off and only got 7 or 8 RISP Ks and couldn't unlock the ability. I think this pretty much establishes the correlation.

Another ability that's hard to unlock is Poise; I suspect that might have to do with doing well after giving up a hit (ie striking out the next batter) since that's when the ability comes into effect.

It can't be that hard to unlock an ability (or can it?). Although, performance affects it, I'm sure the AI pitching can unlock the abilities for you. I got Gold Glover for fielder despite not fielding myself at all (rookie charm).

Same here. But it usually goes faster as a pitcher. I sometimes will buy the Dr. K and use it for the 2nd season games to get that, and then trade it in for Pitching Heart for season three to get those abilities. Same for Marvin's bat and Rex's glove.

GG is a special case though, I don't think you can even call it performance based. Since you have little control over the defense in the game I doubt the creators made it such that it was based on making great plays (dives/leaps etc) on the field. I think experience is gained either by innings played in or by the number of outs the character contributed to.

So I guess it would be similar to Gd Reflexes - but that seems to take a lot longer.
