I made a closer, but they keep making him start the first inning! Is there any way to stop this, or something? My guy only goes like 4 innings because his stamina is low, and it's messing me up. Is there any way to make them start Alvin, or another pitcher, instead of a closer(Me)?

Oh man, I totally wish!

Success Mode always starts your pitcher, even when you choose to make him a reliever/closer. It sucks. Sorry!

That is why I like to boost stamina first.

If you're the captain you can change it so someone else starts and bring him in the 8th or 9th inning, so that's a good reason to become the captain year 2. I'm making a dude now and I always bring him in the 8th inning and as long as we've got the lead, we're gonna win, he is just unstoppable.

For closers, there's not much reason to boost up the stamina really high, I just looked at what konami made all the closers stamina at, which it was 83, and just got my closers stamina up to 83 and started to upgrade everything else.

Sorry, I thought we were just talking about the first game. Of course you can change it when you're captain. Also, if you just get your character to a C level of stamina, sometimes, (if you reload) he will be able to last long enough for you to control him.

Oh, he might be talking about the first game, I'm not sure. But, like you said, I did have my pitcher still in there one game because I forgot to switch it so Alvin would start, but he didn't last too long after I started to control him in the 8th inning because he was very tired and innefective(all 3 of his level 7 pitches looked like level 1 pitches) so I brought in Alvin to finish the game.

Well, that's annoying. I was talking about the first game. I don't like being captain 2nd year, because of the whole ultimatum thing that happens. I don't like s/l'ing that much, and so it annoys me when I lose and it's out of my control. I'll do it if its completely necessary, but I'm not fond of it. 3rd year, I'm fine with being captain, because Alvin is still there, and there's no ultimatum thing. Thanks for the answers.

The only problem with starting someone else when you're captain is that you earn less points for only pitching an inning or two vs. going 3-4 at the start of the game. I experimented with it for awhile when working on a closer, then finally gave up and just started the game with him even though it was annoying.

Here's a question; why even make a Closer or Reliever? Don't Starters start the game with a higher endurance rating?

Other than the green ability 'Starter', which I think is negated once you're placed on a team and given a new role...is there any benefit to picking Closer or Reliever at the start?

Honestly, maybe it's not so odd after all...many of the relief pitchers in the big leagues were starters in high school/college, even the minors.
