Post subject:  question about the names menu

Greetings everyone,

I'm new here and I really enjoy all the great info you all have provided! However, I've been trying to follow the guide for a good pitcher as much as possible. So far, I've beaten the main story once and created a fairly good closer, so I have access to short cut mode.

Anyway, my question is, what do you all do to get through typing the names over and over and over when trying to get a good sense character?
I've been trying for over an hour and haven't gotten a single good sense char, I would even take one with a big drawback or two. Is there some trick to typing in the first/last/nickname quickly or do you all just use really short names?
Typing in character names is getting quite tedious! -Thanks.

P.S. I don't really understand what the special save name is for? Is that just to save you time or what?

The 'saved name' is how your name appears in the lineup during a game. Like in a normal major league lineup the players are listed by last name unless there are multiple players with the same last name, then they get their first initial added. I always do first initial last name for the 'saved name' field.

After awhile you just get pretty good at zipping around the name screen. It does get tedious, but it sounds like you're having pretty bad luck if you've been trying for over an hour and not able to get a Gd Sense player. I can normally get one within 10 tries, though I've never turned a "genius" yet.

wow a good sense player in 10 tries! *dreams*
so far the best random starting stats I've gotten for a pitcher has been
spd 82, ctrl 121, 40 stam but he had POOR sense so I scrapped him.

Thanks for the info about the saved name field. I guess I'll give the random stat generator another shot tonight :o

The Good Stats/Poor Sense start is just as good as Poor Stats/Good Sense.
Good Sense can be acquired in the game, and the difference isn't really big if you gamble.

On the 'saved name' issue - does your character's name there have to match a character in success mode in order to be pronounced?

ie, if you create a character named Jim Michalak, (and 'Michalak' is already something the game can pronounce), do you need to put 'Michalak' in as the 'saved name', or last name? or both?

It can match any of the actual player names in Season Mode as well. If you wanted to name your player Joe Biggio, the game should recognize the last name and be able to pronounce it.

The downside to that is the PA announcer in games often uses the first and last name. I finally took the name off my player named after myself because I got tired of hearing "now batting, Dontrelle Willis!" :)

Hahaha, I was thinking the same thing. I made two brothers that I know with the last name Sanchez and I only like the way it sounds when it's Humberto Sanchez, but that is definitely getting old.
