Just a feeling.

Sometimes I spend the extra cash earlier on on a GC. Sometimes I don't and those times seem to coincide with the times I have a hard time reaching higher levels of Bookworm.

I don't think so, because it isn't studying. I think Bookworm is quite easy to get high levels with. The first weeks get you to level 1, and mind-training, plus professor and annie homeworks get you there before year 3 games.

Is that with or without GC? It's not that I'm concerned about never reaching 4, just that reaching it earlier does have its advantages.

I've gotten to Lv4 as early as Feb Year 2 without doing much out of the ordinary. I think that was after buying the GC early on before doing some homework. Right now without the charm I'm on a much slower pace similar to what you just described.

Oh, I never really see the level 4 as necessary. I rarely study later, as I spend my 0 vitality turns dating (instead of Powerin Special) and I primarily train with shadow pitching or swinging, neither of which are improved.

Lv4 is necessary to intensify Strength Training, which makes a huge difference in Power or fielders and Stamina for pitchers if you get it early. You won't get far in those categories relying on Shadow P or Swinging. But that doesn't answer the initial question: does GC help mind-training?

I ran an experiment and confirmed my intuition: The GC doubles the amount of bookworm exp gained via mindtraining! No wonder I was able to "feel" a difference even though I was biased by the charm's description that says it only helps studying.

What I did was I measured the practices required to upgrade Bookworm one level. It took exactly twice as many turns without the GC.

For those of you who want quick proof you can run this experiment for 5-6 turns to confirm a noticeable difference in how bookworm exp is building up.

That's awesome; I would've assumed it didn't do anything for it. Good thing for us you like to dig a little deeper; nice work. 8)
