ugh, that's not necessary. However, winning your 2nd year game vs Patrick is imperative.

I think it's kind of random. Sometimes, he stays if I'm captain, but more often he doesn't, even when I go undefeated (almost every time).

On the flip side, I've turned down captaincy before and still lost Alvin.

you cannot become captain and alvin will still quit because he fights with toby or something even after mark learns to catch mirage knuckleball

I believe it has to do with Toby leaving or staying with the team. He notices that Alvin has an arm injury and that is what makes him leave.

Is the S Shaker just a different name for the Mirage KN or is it a different pitch altogether?

He is the team's best hitter, though, so it is more of a loss for pitchers, than most think. Just stick him at 1B or RF. Even Catcher, because he has good arm strength and Mark can play 1B. I love his batting stance and how he has 4 trajectory.

Even when im not captain i still lose alvin.
I've never been able to keep him, in 6 players.
Alvin gets hurts and leaves when im captain or something like that (i play shortcut and it just says alvin leaves)
Or when im Not captain he gets into a fight with Toby and leaves (only didnt do shortcut mode once and i got willy)

You either have some really evil luck or there are some choices you make along the way that push Alvin out...

In about 20 play-throughs, I've only had Al leave the team 3 times, and all three due to injury (and he doesn't rejoin a team).

So what's the bottom line?

That there's no sure way of preventing him from leaving? (Not that I care about him)

I never have a problem keeping Alvin around when I want him, or ditching him when I don't. Buying the Willy bat will certainly make him leave. Taking the captain year two works as well.

I can't think of any one time that he left when I didn't want him to or was forced to because of bad Fate Card hand.

What's with all the hating on Alvin?

Other than your player (hopefully) and maybe Robin and Brad/Rex (but not really) he is by far the best player on the team. He's the best hitter and pitcher (his level 2 KN is still the team's best pitch, and only Robin has a higher top speed).
