I'm beginning to think there may be some truth to the notion that Trash Talk is a "catcher only" ability. I've never seen it on any other position players except catchers (Pierzynski and Patrick) and if you think about, catchers are the notorious trash talkers of baseball. I'm not 100% obviously, so if someone has a position player besides a C that has this ability could you drop a line here?

Yeah I did a search in season mode and AJ was the only MLB player with it. lol

I love the guy though, he is one of those players that you love on your team but hate when he isn't.

In my expansion season, the other expansion team had a catcher with it also.

I made about thirty Success mode characters. I have gotten Trash Talk once and it was my fourth C. He also beat the World Gatherings in the exhibition game which netted him Star and Sparkplug mentalities.

It's catcher-only in the sense that it only comes into effect if the player's catching, but that probably doesn't mean non-catchers can't acquire the ability.

For example, outfielders can acquire Pivot Man (from the stat upgrade screen) even though that's an infielder's ability. Infielders can have Cannon Arm even though the description says Low and fast throws from the outfield; non-catchers can have Gd/Grt Catcher though it's obviously useless unless you're behind the plate.

Thats what I was thinking too, but no ones been able to get it. And its probably worth noting that all the abilities you mentioned are under fielding while Trash Talk is listed under others, although I haven't put much thought into whether that has any significance.

could pitchers have it as another form of intimidator?

I wonder what would happen if the batter, catcher, and pitcher all had the ability. If only you could actually hear the talk - then the game might be rated from Teen to Mature

I've confirmed that you can't get TT or Gd/Grt Catcher from Secrets of Defense as a non-catcher. The book seems to take positions into account because I was able to get both as a catcher. It doesn't work even if you have C as a second position.

What I did was, during creation of a 1B, I got an SoD but didn't use it right away. I kept it in the inventory and used it between reloads to see what I'd get after failed gambles etc.

During a certain reload in which I got a second SoD from a Surprise Bag, I experimented further by getting all defensive abilities except Cannon Arm, Throwing 4, TT and Spider Catch. I'd already gotten C as a second position and gave myself a Grt Catcher from the Ability Boost screen.

I used the first SoD, and it gave me Spider Catch. At this point the second SoD got blacked out indicating there were no more abilities I could learn from it.

Not getting it from REs may be harder to prove but I guess time will tell.

I did the same thing you did with the SoD book (had all the defensive abilities that were available for purchase). I thought I posted it somewhere but I can't find it so I'm guessing I forgot to mention it.

Got Trash Talker ability tonight with a catcher. Wasn't from a book. Pretty certain it was random event. Borderline stats but tons of abilities.

I just got trash talk with a center fielder. I got it during Robin's Re with the free powerin giveaway. I used a Marvin card and used Marvin's blue light special technique. (I have done this many times but it always fails) This time it worked and I thanked Marvin and received Trash Talk.

Wow I wonder if the ability would work from the outfield if it did I might just edit my entire team and have everyone have the ability including my pitchers who would also have Intimidator imagine the size of the contact zone after that

I think I just got lucky. I don't think it's an ability that you can "plan" for. Like I said, most times it just fails. Similar to the Lady luck figurine Re. Only one time have I ever GIVEN them to Marvin instead of him taking them.

I had no idea that you could give it to him I always have him take it , what happens when you give it to him?

I can't remember exactly what I got because it's been so long. I posted it under "things that shocked you" but I know you say "I was thinking about giving it to you anyway" and I think you just get some points and maybe your motivation increases or something. I don't recall anything great happening as a result.

I would probably rather him take it from me. You get free items that way.
