The autographed ball gives barehand catch for fielders. I don't know if anyone's used it before for a fielder.

for some reason the player i just created wasnt allowed to use the ball at all, even after it ended.

p.s.- i'm still proud of him because i did the sarah photo session thing with success after the third time, then somehow got gyroball from becky, and then at the end i got intimidator.

what ability does it give to pitchers?

after i found out that i could get gyroball from becky i've made a lot of others to complete the becky story arc. at least to me gd delivery, gyroball, and intimidator are my "big three" abilities. it hasnt been mentioned much in the forums, though it is on the wiki, i just thought i'd say that on yr3 valentines save and then choose challenge when becky sends you the note to meet her in the park. it goes through a dialogue of you wanting to surprise becky before she gets there so you leave early. then once you get to the park you wait for becky but she pops up behing you and says (not exact quote) "you're going to have to be quicker than that to surprise me". obviously a reference to the gyroball ability of it seeming faster or slower than it really is.

I think odawali mentioned those as the big three abilities for pitchers in his JC Denton log. I, myself, would put Dr. K on a tier by itself, right below those three. And Safe Pitch and Lucky on the the third tier. I would actually maybe say Good Delivery isn't as good as the other two abilities, as it can be acquired through the SoP book.

What would you say are the big 3 for fielders, if any at all.

I would add w/risp to the third tier and remove safe pitch. As for fielders you have to believe contact hitter, power hitter, and intimidator are in there.

it really depends on what position for fielders.

catcher- trash talk, grt catcher, gold glover

IF- pivot man (maybe not for 1B/3B), barehanded catch, gold glover

OF- cannon arm, spider catch, gold glover

i basically think gold glover is a must for having a good fielder. a minor one that i would definetly get would be throwing 4.

for hitters i would have to say:

for contact hitters- contact hitter, spray hitter, and hot hitter

for speed hitters- bunt master, grt if hitter, tough out

for power hitters- power hitter, spray hitter, firstball hitter

its really hard to discern three distinctly better abilities than others. it really depends on your style of play. i think spray hitter is a must unless you're making a speedy leadoff hitter. Power and contact hitter goes to their respective types. after that its really a toss up.

I wasn't really basing it on importance, as opposed to rarity, and safe pitch is harder to get because it is not available through gambling or equipment. Gold Glover, on the other hand, is extremely easy to get.

For hitters I was thinking more of Spider Catch, Intimidator, Rally Hitter, BL Hitter, Walk-Off hitter, and B2B Hitter, all relatively rare abilities.

As far as usefulness, I definitely agree with all of your selections.

A very underrated useful ability for pitchers is Gd Reflexes, which really helps with knocking down balls hit back up the middle (rather than having them go through you and displaying the exclamation graphic).

I agree that with hitters/position players, the abilities are more dependent on the position. For batting, Power Hitter/Contact Hitter depending on the player. They're the batting equivalents of the pitcher's Fastball Life and Spin abilities. For contact hitters I also really like Grt If Htr, which helps runners beat out slow grounders to the left side.

On the fielding side, there are so few in live games errors that I find Gold Glove to be very overrated. Pivot Man is huge for SS/2B, Throwing 4 is especially good for OF to cut down runners trying to advance. Grt Catcher is a big one to get for catchers.
