That's a waste of 2 powerins since you can study even when you are in the yellow. You just have to reload but it does work eventually.

Wait, you can study on yellow?
I never knew that. I usually rest that week.

You can study while in the yellow to some degree, but usually you get the "kaw ... kaw ... " and fall asleep.

After studying 3 times right I've never been able to study a 4th without resting or using a pair of powerins, unless I get some random event that boosts vitality early on. Becky meeting the team in Oct usually knocks me pretty far into the red, and just one powerin usually doesn't get me back up enough to study again without falling asleep.

You will want a challenge card for getting an extra 20 bucks from working...

I usually rest when I have yellow vitality so I have a decent amount to get good money at my job when the option is available. Challenge cards give raises anytime you have a fate card decision at any job, tutor or pizza (although they sometimes fail at the pizza place). It's worth the extra money.

Well, I'm 100% sure that with a small amount of reloads you can definitely study just as effectively in yellow vitality and I don't work until the tutor job because it gives you more money per turn.

where do you get the money for the mind-training and recovery necklaces?

you start with 200, do you just not use the mind-trainer because you study so much at beginning?

I don't get past level 2 because I don't use the equipment to get abilities. I use a turn and gamble for it.

But some abilities can't be gambled for - Dr. K.

secrets of pitching. I get two with year 3 Christmas and Valentines. If I want lucky or safe pitch then I'll do the professor's homework.

Oh yeah, that works. And I assume you use the second for Gd Delivery. I like to date Becky for Intimidator, sometimes, so that option doesn't work. I have to use tickets for that, as well, because I don't feel like reloading for any other event.

Has anyone made a good character while missing the first game?

I missed it, somehow - I think I spent too much time on Annie - but don't really want to restart after successfully gambling for Bunt Master and Grt Infield Hitter, as well as getting Throwing 4 from a Random Event, and stocking 5 challenge cards at once.

good? lol, i'm sure it's doable. you probably loose about 50-60xp max across the boards... enough to net you an add'l gambled ability or a few points in stam/pwr

I always make the team 1st year, while it is a bit boring my run up to the first year games is usually pretty close to the same each time -

* Aug/Sept/Oct study

* Nov study
* Dec - if start game with 3 powerin, use powerin and study. If start game with 2 powerin, rest.
* Jan - if studied in Dec, rest. If rested in Dec, study
* Feb weeks 1 & 2 work (if rested in Jan), work 1 and rest week 2 if studied in Jan)
* Feb week 3 rest (if worked week 2), or work (if rested week 2)
* Feb week 4 strength train
* Mar week 1 save/reload Bison until get both recovery and mind training necklaces
* Mar week 1 - 4 strength train
* Apr week 1 rest (+99 strength hyper-recovery)
* Apr week 2 - 4 strength train
* get added to team Apr week 4
* May week 1 study (Annie's homework)
* May week 2 study (Annie's homework)
* May week 3 strength train
* May week 4 game and then rest (+99 strength hyper-recovery)

Anyone have an opinion about taking this post from Wyl and integrating some of the key points from the "post your builds" thread (and maybe a few other threads too) into a sticky about how to make a good player?

I personally found this post from Wyl to be one of the most helpful (but it took a long time to find!), so I thought it might be beneficial for others as well. It only requires the one S/L for Bison's shop which most people can stomach and it creates a solid foundation for building a good player. Also, we have a good sticky for making pitchers, but nothing for hitters. It seems 'worthwyl' to me, or is everyone moving onto MLBPP2008 these days? What do you think?

If there's enough interest, I'd be willing to work on it, but probably not until next week sometime. (If someone else can start sooner, then go for it!)

I've made a few good players while missing the first game.
