I was wondering about this earlier. I've never caught one, which isn't to surprising since I've only been to 5-6 games (and in half of those, I had no shot of catching one.) There haven't been research or studies about the odds, but apparently they are about 1/1000.

So, have any of you guys caught a ball?

I've caught a foul ball at a Rivercats game. (Oakland Athletics AAA farm team) It was hit by Kendry Morales, I believe, when he was on the Salt Lake Bees, (Angels AAA team)

I took a foul ball off my back it was 2006 June 17 against the dodgers Frank Thomas was the hitter he lines down the left field line towards our section I was sitting down and I leaned forward it hit my back at full impact the guy behind me got it it sucked he got booed because I was 10 at the time and he was like 36 people were like give him the ball do the right thing. Never got the ball though

Ouch, and Frank Thomas hits hard. That had to hurt.

Ouch. OUCH. Oh, now that's just cruel. That hurts worse than getting hit.

I've only caught batting practice balls at a minor league game. Reed Johnson was on rehab in the outfield shagging balls, too. We only saw him from behind, so my dad looked up his uniform number on the team's roster and told everyone around us that he was Mario Mercedes. Everyone was asking "Mario" to throw them a ball for a while until someone said "Hey, that's Reed Johnson!"

Yeah I'm nice about these thing last time I was there was in 2010 caught three foul balls in BP gave them all away generosity is contagious.

Nope, hoping for it someday. Closest we got was taking someone's seats (a few seats over, at the end of the aisle) and they came back, only to find a hot dog shot up right to them.

I haven't caught a ball, but I do have a Jarrod Saltalamacchia autographed ball from one of those "kids take the field" things they do at Rangers Ballpark.

This is really ironic...

At the Brewers game on Sunday we were in the left field bleachers for BP, and I believe it was Jimmy Rollins who hit one in our direction. I jumped for it, and it hit off the top of my fingers, but I wasn't tall enough/couldn't jump high enough to get it. I did get 2 fingers on it though. And then some middle aged guy behind us grabbed it and said thanks. In a really rude voice.

Never caught a foul ball or a home run, but back when Sean Casey played for the Tigers he tossed a ball into the stands over the home dugout and I got it.

I think it's still in my room.

I think I did once. Of course that was in a game I played in, and it was only about once in the 5 years or so I played baseball.

I did get a baseball at a local game before I'm pretty sure though, but they gave out candy to return them so you weren't supposed to keep them. Was nowhere near a catch, it was just hit into a parking lot so it was laying around for a few minutes.

I was about 3 seats too far to the left at a Braves game from catching a foul on the 3rd base line. If I dove I woulda had it

My cousins caught a foul ball once at a Fort Wayne Wizards (now TinCaps, single-A Padres) game once. No one was there so we basically had the entire section from third base all the way to left field...

I have a bit of an interesting story behind mine; not sure if I told it or not, but I probably have in the past:

So, I was at Wrigley Field (in the separated-from-the-rest-of-the-park bleachers, nonetheless) during the Nationals batting practice (the Cubs opponent that day), and who I believed to be Jayson Werth or Mike Morse hit a bomb right to our section. Well, this particular ball bounced off the head of a Cubs fan about 5 rows down from us (he was OK after the hit), and bounced up to about a row behind us, and I got to it before any other fans got to it. About a few minutes later, another ball came up to our same section, and the person who got hit in the head earlier caught this particular ball. Just before the game, this dude, whose seat was about a couple rows in front of us, asked if we could trade our respective BP balls, saying, "It would be a great story to tell my kids, 'I got hit in the head with this ball!'" So, I agreed to the exchange, and thus I technically caught a couple BP HR balls.

It's pretty interesting, better than the semi-interesting story behind the old hockey stick that's collecting dust in my room.
