Imagine yourself as an NFL GM, sitting in the top 12, with a need at linebacker. Would you draft Manti Te'o, even after this whole fake girlfriend debacle?

I would still draft him

Why wouldn't you? He's a great player.

Haven't heard of him until now, but I would assume GMs would draft based on skill regardless of whatever the hell actually happened.

I would. Who cares what happened. I'm willing to be that this incident will drive him more than before it ever took place.

Absolutely. If anything the publicity would help boost merch and ticket sales *coughJetscough*

Yeah. Even if he was behind the hoax.

God, this story is weird.

Give me a good reason why a minor (in my eyes at least) off-field issue should affect anyone drafting a player with a high pick.

So, nobody here is swayed at all? With a top 12 pick, you're looking for a future of the franchise. Sure, he's definitely talented, but he seems super risky. If he is part of the hoax, he's an attention seeking nutcase (not that the NFL is short on those...). And if he really was fooled, then he comes off as kinda stupid and gullible. You don't find it a bit suspicious that if she was "the love of his live", that they would have seen each other at least once? I think he falls to the 15-18 range for team on the verge of making the playoffs.

When I put the poll up, I thought he would be fine, and I actually believed him. But now? There's just so many things that don't stack up

Oh, no I agree. If he's a part of it or not he comes out looking bad.

I'd still pick him in the top 12. Wouldn't be surprised if he drops, though.

Skittles, you'd be surprised at the strength of the feelings you can develop for other people solely over the internet. It's easy to completely fall for someone over the internet, easier than you'd think. It's not really stupidity.

Maybe he did and was denied.

Unless something's been said about this and I haven't heard it.

I'm not doubting how you can develop feelings for someone over the Internet, but calling a person the love of your life without even meeting? And then going on to make a really big deal out of her dying. I just can't fathom how one would consider someone they hasn't met the love of their life. If he had told the media that a person he spoke to on Twitter and over the phone died that he really liked would this really be such a big story?
