For those of you that don't know what gutted games are, this is a pretty good explanation
Quote:
What they will do is open up brand new copies of games and use the cases for display and put the discs away. Once they run out of sealed copies, they will then try to sell you that gutted copy for the same price as a brand new game.

I ask this because my Twisted Metal game today was "gutted", because since it's a 10 month old game, it was the only new copy they had in stock. A lot of people on the internet hate this, and think that if the game has been opened, even if the game hasn't been used, it can't be marketed as new. I can see where they're coming from, but I don't really care. The case looks nice, the disc looks perfect, the manual is included, and it has the codes that come from buying it new. So give yo opinions, yall. :P

Note: If you buy your games from stores such as Walmart or Target, or online, you won't have this issue

I had no idea what these were until I read the definition you gave, I've never had them and it doesn't seem like too big of an issue at all really.

I only acquire my games from the three places you mentioned, therefore I've never had this problem.

This.

However from the definition you gave I personally don't think that gutted games are right. If something has been opened I don't think it should be marketed as new.

Personally I'm not a fan of them. To me, a "New" game is one that comes sealed, not one that is opened up and labelled "New", even if it's never been used. How am I supposed to know it's never been used?

I hate them, but I really don't get gutted games anymore. The last one I got was probably years ago, so I don't have the problem anymore. I buy my games online and at gamestop, and I don't get gutted games at gamestop, just because I don't like them...

Obviously nobody gets gutted games on purpose, but sometimes it's the only way. For example, multi-player is a big part of Twisted Metal, so you have to buy it new. It wasn't available online, and it's too old to be commonly found new (even though it's just 10 months old), so a gutted game from GameStop is sometimes to only choice

I usually only get pre-owned games at gamestop. They are cheap, they give you 7 days to bring it back, and well they are pre-owned, so they can't be gutted

EDIT: Also, the reason I hate gutted copies, is because I like it when things are "clean". I don't like it when they put the "NEW" stickers on the cases, because sometimes they don't completely come off, and even if they do, they are sticky... I dunno, I guess I am a I am a clean perfectionist person :P

EDIT 2:

I don't understand. CoD multi-player is big, and I buy them pre-owned...

could you explain please

For some games you need a code to be able to play online.

^This
For example, to play an EA game online, you need to have the code that it comes with. A good chunk of Sony exclusives do this too

And Liam, you do realize that used games typically have more stickers anyways, right? My new Twisted Metal game had only 1 sticker, but the pre-owned ones I bought last week had 3 or 4

I have only had one game like this and it was NHL 11, they ask if you want the online code, but I guess it is different if the game was new then used... But I am not sure.

I'm indifferent. If it hasn't been played, then it's still "new" to me.

I'm in favor of gutted games - it reduces shoplifting, which keeps the store costs down, which keep game costs down. It's not an issue for places that keep the good games behind locked glass, preventing you from looking at the case without a store person next to you.
