For the next five days (Friday-Tuesday), I'll do a mini-series focusing on video games, starting with today's question about the Wii U. I feel as though Nintendo is getting gimmicky with their products. I came into the video game world around the transition between the 5th and 6th generations. The N64 was good, but I hated the controller, it was way to big and I couldn't find a good place for my hands. The GameCube was great, but I didn't like how they made the discs. Not only were they small, but you had to push them in instead of sliding of placing them in. I always felt like I would break the CD, and I actually did once. I found the GameBoys to be a fantastic idea that worked incredibly well, and helped revolutionize the non-console gaming (i.e. games on phones and others). Then there was the Wii with its motion controls, and that's where I feel the gimmicks started. I was fine if I had to do specific motions with the controller, but it was always a pain in the ass to try and focus it on a certain part of the TV to select something. The DS with the touch screen was a gimmick, but it was a gimmick that ended up being very successful. The 3DS on the other hand, doesn't work for me, and it isn't something I plan on ever purchasing, because the 3D is just a gimmick to create another device and get more money. I don't see any other differences that would convince me to upgrade from my green DSi. But on the actual subject of the Wii U, it looks awful. It looks confusing with the game pad and the TV. The controller is just like the XBox controller, although Nintendo is saying it's not. Besides, what games would I get for the Wii U? I heard Paper Mario and Link are good, but I've never played either. I loved Mario Kart and Party for the DS and GameCube, but I wasn't a fan of either for the Wii and I don't know how I'd feel about either on the WIi U. A Super Smash Bros would be nice, but I never got Brawl, so if I really wanted, I could just get that for Wii. My favorite games are 3D platformers (like Crash and Spyro), and those are almost all with Sony. Not to mention there's no Power Pros... TL;DR I'm not interested |

I'll be getting it at one point, I get all of Nintendo's consoles regardless of whether or not they look good because I love Mario and Zelda and all that shit. I actually think the whole gamepad aspect looks pretty cool and a few friends of mine said that it was integrated rather well so I'm not too worried about that. Although I do agree with you in that Nintendo's consoles/handhelds are getting kinda gimmicky. I'm not a huge fan of the whole 3DS thing even though I have one, I just play with the 3D off most of the time. |

It does look pretty interesting, but I'm satisfied with my regular Wii and PS3 as is. Therefore, I'd rather save the money and either pass on it or wait till the price drops. |

I think it looks pretty cool, and I've played with it at Target once. The controller is surprisingly light and easy to use. I'll probably be getting it at some point in the future. But not for a while. |

It seems interesting, but I could see how you would see it as gimmicky though. Some of the games look fun after watching some footage of it like Nintendo Land and Scribblenauts Unlimited. And it'd be interesting to see how the controllers work + I think co-op would be fun too. If I do get it, it'll probably be later on but I'm not sure yet. I'd love to see a Power Pros or Super Smash Bros game released on there. |

I miiight get it. I want it, but I don't know if I'll be getting it. With the Wii U, it looks like Nintendo will be realeasing the games that were previously only for PS3 XBox and PC. I just saw Assassins Creed 3 and Arkham City: Armored Edition at Best Buy. As for it being backwards compatible; how is that going to work? If I want to play Power Pros do I use the Game Pad? |

I really hope we see another Power Pros someday. I wonder if the next JPPY game will be released on Wii U and if the Wii U has the region code lock thing. The more I see/read about this thing the more I want it. I'll go through a quick run down of what I think about the Nintendo consoles over the years. Gameboy: Pretty much the first portable gaming device. Very innovative. Gamecube: Had lots of fun with it. Didn't get why the discs were so small. DS: Loved it. I had hours of fun with this thing. 3DS: It doesn't get much more gimmicky than this, but the 3D was cool for a while. Wii: Very fun system. I like both the classic controlling and motion controlling. I'd say it's the first game console the whole family can enjoy. |

I will not be getting the Wii U barring an MLBPP comeback. Even then, I don't know if I would get much out of it, what with going to college in 3+ years and all that. If my current Wii (3rd) breaks I may end up buying the Wii U. |

3 and a half years is a good amount to get out of a console. I know the lifespan of consoles used to be at least 6, but getting about half a consoles life and then trading it in isn't too bad But I totally didn't think about college. By the time I graduate high school, the PS3 will probably be near the end of it's run. I don't know if that works very well, or horribly. |

I won't get it because I have a Wii and you only get one controller, so my bros would fight over it. And to get a new remote costs $100. |
