Four things to contribute my 2 cents, and then I want this to end without any harm done:

1. It's called full faith and credit. It's to guarantee that states will recognize licenses, etc. in other states, such as driver's licenses and marriage licenses and all that. However, because of the Defense of Marriage Act, FF&C was taken away for gay marriage.

2. America is a secular nation. You know, separation of church and state. So any reasoning behind banning or restricting gay marriage that is religious is automatically moot.

3. The other commonly cited reason, which has to do with social custom "traditional marriage" and all that is ridiculous, because social customs are always changing. We don't keep around the lynching of African-Americans or burning "witches" at the stake or even something that was judicially approved like the concept of separate but equal or how the 14th Amendment doesn't apply to states, so I don't see why a lot of people suddenly have to go up in arms against something that's completely harmless, doesn't affect them in the slightest (unless you think being gay is contagious, in which case I probably have a link for you), and yet is apparently incredibly offensive.

4. "As a Christian, I don't believe in gay marriage" is a completely fallacious statement, as it implies that all or even most Christians don't believe that gay marriage should be legal. You may be a Christian and you may believe it should be banned, but that's where the correlation ends. There are millions of Christians in this country that believe gay marriage should be legal across the nation, and in fact that majority of this country's population believes so. I have many Christian friends (including my best online friend), and even Catholic friends who think gay marriage should be legal, and you know how Catholics can be. (:lol:)

tl;dr for 4: Christian =/= ban gay marriage

Just because I don't support gay marriage, you want me to leave? You guys are jerks. The only reason I won't leave is because you need members because everybody is leaving. And you wanna know why? Because you guys act like this. Expect me to be on here a lot less. And you know what? I'm going to tell everyone I can that is considering joining or just joined that they should leave or not join at all.

To sum it up, I won't leave, but I won't be on here as much as I used to.

Now, hold on, I don't see why you should have the ultimate power to end every argument. I mean, I'll stop posting about it, but it irks me.

Also 4 is very true. Hell, all of those are very true.

Ok, maybe not all Christians are against gay marriage, but I am and always will be.

Okay, one last thing:

You guys seriously are jerks. Just because he has a different point of view on a controversial topic doesn't mean you guys have to castrate him. I mean, I'm VERY much for gay marriage, very much for pro-choice, and for religious freedom (Bible reading in non-religious schools and such is completely unconstitutional, oh by the way), but I didn't attack him. I simply stated my points clearly, in a manner that was stating my side rather than going on the offensive, and here you guys are crucifying him (pun totally intended ). Seriously, have ANY of you learned your lessons from a couple days ago?

Anthony, there is no need to be so condescending, for the record. You could have stated your point without sounding like you wanted to incite something, which it absolutely did when you said "That's right, ban gay marriage."

PPFan: I'm not saying I have the ultimate power to end all arguments. However, when situations get out of hand like that, I feel like, as an elder statesman of the forum, so to speak, I must step in and moderate, and stop things before they get even further out of hand. I'm not trying to put myself above others, I just want this crap to end. ESPECIALLY when this crap is going on multiple times IN THE SAME WEEK.

I was a little forward with my point, and I'm sorry, and I do indeed believe in religious freedom. Some people just get on to you for being Christian when they say they believe in religious freedom.

I disagree with Anthony, but seriously, what he stated were some of his religious beliefs. You can't get a mad at him for that.

Also, s-jax, I'm another Catholic who is for gay marriage.

One of my best friends is gay which is why gay marriage is a bit of a touchy topic for me, and it pisses me off to no end when people say something like "I hate gays" or "gay marriage should be outlawed" or something.

And Zumi, to an extent. You choose your classes, you still need a math, science, english, and history every year, even if that subject will have little to no use to you later in life

My gay best friend's travails and problems > your gay best friend's travails and problems. I guarantee it.

...not to be mean or anything, I'm just saying I have a gay best friend who's been through more in 18 years than most go through in a lifetime, and that he is easily my biggest inspiration.

For the record I never told him to leave but I see how it can be misconstrued as such. ah well.

Excuse me, but I'm really sick of the whole "mac and ppfan vs. whoever pissed them off today" argument. Then people take sides, and it gets pissy.
