Bumgarner, Posey lead charge as Giants dominate Diamondbacks on Opening Day ![]() Image: Buster Posey running to second base during his RBI double in the first inning. The Giants won 7-1 on Opening Day, backed by a strong offensive breakout, and a gem tossed by Madison Bumgarner. After allowing a leadoff single to A.J. Pollock, Bumgarner shut down the Arizona offense, allowing only one other hit (albeit a home run) and striking out 13, going the distance in the victory. Among his highlights, and probably the most impressive part of his night, was an immaculate inning pitched in the 4th. On the offensive side of things, Buster Posey led the charge, going 4-5 with two doubles and 2 RBI. He reached base all 5 times, reaching on an error in the 9th.

Red Sox, Giants strike deal ![]() Image: Jackie Bradley Jr. has not lived up to the hype surrounding him in his first two MLB seasons, but he will get a new start in San Francisco. The San Francisco Giants have agreed to a deal with the Boston Red Sox, a trade that will send C Hector Sanchez to Boston in exchange for OF Jackie Bradley Jr. The move makes sense for both teams, as the Red Sox needed a third catcher in case of an injury and the Giants need more positional depth in the outfield. Sanchez, 25, struggled in Spring Training for the Giants, losing the backup catcher job to Andrew Susac. Bradley Jr., 24, has not lived up to expectations in his first two seasons, but hopes to turn things around on the opposite coast. The move also clears over $1.1 million dollars in salary for San Francisco. RF Justin Maxwell was optioned to AAA to make room for Bradley Jr. on the 25-man roster. The Giants return home to play the Rockies tomorrow in San Francisco's home opener. San Francisco finished 5-2 on their road trip to open up the season, sweeping the Diamondbacks and splitting a 4-game series with the Padres. Tomorrow's home opener pits Jordan Lyles for Colorado against veteran Tim Hudson for the Giants. |
