Post subject:  (insert title here) | an OOTP 15 Astros log

so I recently bought OOTP 15. after trying several different things in the game, I settled on a standard game with the Houston Astros. unlike most of my other logs (*cough*Cubs*cough*), I will actually be playing with the real Astros team (ok most of it). here is a recap of what has gone down so far:

Team Recap:

4/1: NYY 9, HOU 5 | W: Pineda (1-0) L: Feldman (0-1) | Beltran (NYY): 3-5, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 2 R
4/2: NYY 2, HOU 3 | W: Cosart (1-0) L: Kuroda (0-1) S: Albers (1) | Castro (HOU): 2-3, HR, RBI, 2 R
4/3: NYY 4, HOU 9 | W: Keuchel (1-0) L: Tanaka (0-1) | Dominguez (HOU): 3-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R
4/4: LAA 8, HOU 5 | W: Santiago (1-0) L: Oberholtzer (0-1) S: Frieri (1) | Trout (LAA): 4-4, 3B, 2 R
4/5: LAA 8, HOU 3 | W: Skaggs (1-0) L: Peacock (0-1) | Skaggs (LAA): 8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K
4/6: LAA 4, HOU 2 (10) | W: Frieri (1-0) L: Albers (0-1) | Wilson (LAA): 8 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 6 K
4/7: LAA 6, HOU 0 | W: Weaver (2-0) L: Cosart (1-1) | Weaver (LAA): 9 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K

So...yeah. We're 2-5, and second baseman Jose Altuve is hitting .120. There have been a few bright spots, like our bullpen, Jason Castro, and Matt Dominguez, but the Angels dominated us the whole series, and I had to resort to giving Trout an IBB most times he came up to avoid big damage.

Other Notes

Forgot to mention, but I am playing this as myself, which means the team is being run by a 16-year-old. I'm not sure how often or in what format I'll update this yet, but I'll think about my options.

(Oh, and Robinson Cano got traded to the Rangers for Prince Fielder and Joakim Soria. :/)

Brinson and Wisler are highly ranked prospects. Cron is the Angels' DH irl. Carter is the Astros' DH irl. Corporan is their backup catcher, and Feierabend, Greenwood, Wilson, Harrell, and Krauss have all been in the majors recently, though they're not big names by any stretch of the mind

Basically, I got a bunch of good prospects and decent minor-league role players (middle relievers, utilitymen, etc.) while only giving up fringe minor league guys, a couple older MLB guys, and one or two decent prospects

Altuve rebounds with huge game, Astros squash Jays

Jose Altuve came into this game mired in a slump, hitting .120 on the season. He came out as the Astros' most important player. Altuve was 4 for 5 with a home run, 5 RBI and 3 runs scored, Dallas Keuchel fell just one out shy of a complete game, and Houston defeated Toronto by a score of 13-4. Keuchel (2-0) had just one out left to get for the complete game when he came down with an injury. It is reported to be merely back soreness, and Keuchel is unlikely to miss a start. For Toronto, all four pitchers pitched poorly, especially starter Dustin McGowan (0-1), who allowed seven runs in less than three innings, raising his ERA to 14.73 on the season.

NOTES: Ryan Feierabend has been named the starter for tomorrow's game against Toronto.

Astros win 6-4 over Toronto on Wednesday

The Houston Astros beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 Wednesday night in a close ballgame. Both starters, Houston's Ryan Feierabend (1-0) and Toronto's Drew Hutchison (0-1) struggled in the first few innings, but Feierabend recovered and wound up throwing 6 and two-thirds innings in his season debut, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three. Raul Valdes also made his season debut for Houston, walking a batter, getting one out, and recording a hold out of the bullpen. The eventual game-winner was scored by Robbie Grossman on a solo homer in the third inning, after George Springer had hit a two-run jack to tie the game a few batters before. In a bizarre twist, Toronto reliever Brett Cecil was named Player of the Game for throwing two and one-third perfect innings with four strikeouts, despite his team having lost.

Stroman dominant in Jays win

Making his MLB debut, Marcus Stroman certainly didn't expect to pitch this well. But he did Thursday night, throwing a complete game in Toronto's 7-2 win over Houston. Stroman (1-0) allowed just two runs on three hits and one walk, while striking out eleven and only throwing 96 pitches. Astros first baseman C.J. Cron, also making his MLB debut, was responsible for both runs via homers in the third and fifth innings- his first two at-bats, making him the 117th player to homer in his first at-bat, and just the third all-time to homer in his first 2 at-bats, joining Keith McDonald in 2000 and Bob Nieman in 1951. For Toronto offensively, Dioner Navarro and Edwin Encarnacion each had three hits.

Transactions: 4/11

TRADE: HOU sends- SS Marwin Gonzalez (Age 25, O 1, P 1), 2B Tony Kemp (Age 22, O 1, P 3.5), RP Jerome Williams (Age 32, O 0.5, P 0.5)
SF sends- SP Kyle Crick (Age 21, O 0.5, P 4), RP Dan Runzler (Age 29, O 0.5, P 2)

Activated SP Asher Wojciechowski from the 15-day DL.

Trade outrages Astros fans

The recent trade that sent veteran pitcher Jerome Williams to San Francisco was not popular with many fans. "Williams is very popular both locally and nationally, I don't get why they traded him," said one fan. Another remarked, "This Bernhart guy is [expletive] stupid. I mean, he is a [expletive]." A group of fans, however, shared their optimism toward the trade. "Obviously Williams was popular here, but we need to build for the future, and Crick is a really good pitcher who will only get better as he matures with us." The fans were wearing 1979 "rainbow" jerseys.

Is it your goal to make a trade every day?

yes

and not only that but I have to get a SP or 1B prospect in the trade and give up a good veteran or it doesn't count

(considering restarting this due to bad trading)

It's not the trading as so much as when you're trading. Blowing up the team in April isn't exactly common practice

Yeah, that's what I meant. I think I'm panicking too much - part of the reason I traded Fowler is because he couldn't hit, but that was through, what, 25 at bats?

I have no idea why I always trade so early.

Yeah I was wondering why you were saying Altuve was mired in a slump only like 7 games into the year

Carter has a .178 AVG and a .352 OBP? That's a little weird.
