I'm bored, so, update...

After two months here in the fantasy league, there have been a whole lot of surprises. First off, we'll take a look at the standings.

Two teams have currently broken away from the pack. One of them, the Spartans, were an early season favorite. They are in the top three in every category, except runs and stolen bases, where they are 2nd to last in both. They have 74.5 points, but are only in 2nd place. In the lead with 76 points are the Ducklings! Marked by the experts as long-shots to be in contention, they have defied the odds and have been sitting in the top spot for over a month now.

Behind them are the Pickles (with 61.5 points) and Peanuts (with 60 points). These are the only two teams who have been a threat to the leaders. The Pickles, another team who came in with low expectation, were slotted in first for a good chunk of April, but have slowly fallen back through May. The Peanuts climbed as high as 2nd just a few weeks ago, but they couldn't quite keep up the pace.

The group after them consists of the River Bandits (with 55 points), the Zombie Pigmen (with 53.5 points), and the Mendenhals (with 53 points). Both the River Bandits and Zombie Pigmen have been good, but not great so far. Their current pieces likely won't be good enough to claim the championship, so if they plan on going for the title, they might need to make some deals by the trade deadline. The Mendenhals have the worst run, home run, RBI, and stolen base totals, but they are near the top in the other six categories. This can be attributed to some bad managing (surprising from a guy with this much pedigree), and underachieving players like Castro and Perez.

The final group holds the Twisters (with 43 points), the Eagles (with 40 points), and the Massacres (with 34.5 points). At this point, the owners may want to begin focusing on next year (assuming we have one). The Twisters changed hands in April after some inactivity, so their poor performance could possibly be attributed to that. But the other two are just hard to explain. Even with the biggest steal of the draft in Chris Davis, the Eagles just haven't gotten going, maybe due to not getting enough from their aces. And the Massacres were pointed to as the favorite in March, but have just been pathetic. And quite frankly, I don't know why.

I guess that shows why you don't make assumptions before games have been played.


And are we going to continue this league next year? We should probably figure that out soon

So that teams who feel can no longer contend can try and build for next year. Within reason, of course. You can't totally tank and load up on all top prospects. But you can maybe grab a couple

Yeah, but I'd rather get a whole new team next year. It seems like it'd be hard for people at the bottom to make enough moves to contend.
