You don't keep everyone. You just pick 3-6 players based on value/talent. That still leaves about 20 spots to be filled during the draft, giving each team a pretty big turn-over

Gah! I've been interested in Teheran for about a week now, and I'd looked for him to fill the space left by Johnny Cueto. So I go to pick him up today, and I see the game he's pitching has already started (at like 12:15). I think "Oh, well" and just pick him up anyways. Even though his stats wouldn't affect my team with today's start, I'll already have him for when he goes against the Padres. And then he and nearly throws a no-hitter!
